I put down a deposit on an '04 Freelander TD4 HSE Auto at the w/e for Mrs catretriever to replace the current family-wagon. Liked everything about the car except for the rather sluggish way it pulls away from junctions. I imagine chipping or re-mapping the ECU would improve this and was wondering if anyone out there could make any recommendations...

cheers

I don't do diesels personally, but there are loads of companies advertising in the LR mags.

There was an article about Jeremy Fearn recently in one of them. There are others of course.

Rogers of Bedford (01234 348469) do a range of chips for diesels. They offered me one for my Disco Td5, but after driving both I decided not to bother.

My Disco is off to Dastek next Tuesday for a Stage 2 upgrade that takes it from 137 BHP to 185 to 190 BHP. It is a Powerchip plus intercooler upgrade. I'll let you know how I get on.

The Freelander kit should add 25 BHP and 30 ft lbs Torq. They do a live rolling road tune. Plus they offered a freebee run on the RR for my Cerbera!

Sounds good. Where exactly are Dastek then, and how much are you looking at cost wise?

Just over a grand for the Stage 2 fitted inc VAT & the RR run.

Dastek are up in Dalgety Bay, Fife - just north of Edinburgh but I have just been on the phone to Paul at Dastek and there is a dealer closer to you called Disco Parts run by a guy called Mark Casey. You can contact him on 07815149070.

I have heard only good things about Jeremy Fearn. The fact that Dastek were only 100 miles away and offered the rolling road tune swung it for me.

Fearns claims for the stage 2 (Chip plus intercooler) upgrade of 198 BHP seems high. Dastek only claim 185 BHP but that may be because they are actually required to prove it afterwards on the rolling road
