How reliable are they in real life.
I think they look good and are considering a used one. Has it ever left you stuck and Would you buy another.

Thanks in advance

'04 V8 - Never let me down and yes I would definately buy another, a minor wind noise issue fixed under warranty with no inconvenience to me.

I would go for a newer one rather than a P38.
Although I went for a Classic in the end, because I like fixing things with an angle grinder and a hammer

67,000 miles in a 02 TD6. Average 23.7mpg.

One issue at 54,000 fixed under warranty (misfire or something).

Will replace with another one at 100,000 miles.

whats the p (number) models - Im a bit newbie to RR to know the model numbers

The one Im keen on is the RR with the side grills/slats behind the front wheel - the latest model - although I understand a facelift one is out in Dec.

"P" models refer to the model from 1994 to 2002 known as the "P38A" (P38) because it was planned it building 38A at the factory. (Sad I know!)

Latest shape RR are dropping like a stone at the moment. Friend has just sold his. 17K miles. Never been off road or had kids in (not sure which causes the most damage). 20 inch wheels 4.4 V8. Dec 03 registered. £32K on trade in. Someone offered £30K. Was tempted but they still have a way to fall. Cost new £65K. Ouch.

All have had their problems and have been back to the dealers, but would i buy another? well i am having that problem at the moment. No terrible reliability issues with later cars. RR V8 Vogue good value (as stated above): eg 03/03 V8 Vogues from 30K. It IS thirsty!!!

Discovery 3 a stunning (if not pretty) vehicle with one of the best diesel engines I have ever driven. 440Nm of torque in standard form. Probably better than the RR Diesel unit TBH.

I don't know where you are but if you would like to try one/all, feel free to pm me.

disco 3 is probably fantastic but is just too heavy, offends my inbuilt engineering sensitivities. 3 tonnes. please. can just about get my head around 2.5 tonnes. just.

Au contraire, 2.7 tonnes please!!! What do you mean the Disco is ugly. I think it looks better than the RR, certainly the better all rounder.

Besides, you'd be suprised just how well it goes and handles for it's size...Ok it's not an X5 but it does pretty well all things considered.

Right..back off to the BMW forum!!!

the Disco 3 is our (havnt told the wife yet) leaning at the moment/nanosecond/ as it has 7 seats which would be useful. I like the look of it and there 2nd hand market has a nice suply now.

Also, I wouldnt feel like I was sticking out too much with a Disco3 when parked for shopping/ hols and not feel as worried about attracting the wrong sort of attention as I may do in a Range Rover.

How are diesels for short journeys ie under 5 miles, or would petrol be better?

Having see a few Disco 3 mostly in dark colours, Im quite keen on a light green which did look smart on one I saw. any views

Absolutely love my P38 4.6HSE.

They are just a big Meccano kit. Nothing complicated about them, it all unscrews or unbolts.

Prefer the look to the new (mkIII) ones - They have gone a bit footballer/drug dealer for me.
