2016 Discovery, snapped timing chain.
Discussion
Good morning, my first foray into this section so might be a bit light on detail!
My BILs 2.0 diesel 2016 Discovery has a snapped timing chain, he's in Aberdeen so only really has the local main dealer to fall back on. They have quoted him £13k for a new engine.
Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations on where to take it or where to get a decent recon engine?
He could look at getting it transported if it was worth it. What's the market value, roughly and is it worth getting it fixed?
Thanks in advance 😁

His options are fairly limited, and all costly
1. Get the dealer to fix it - ~£13k
2. Get the car transported to an independent specialist, get them to fix it - less than £13k, but probably upwards of £7k for something with a reputation
3. Get the car transported to an independent, get them to put a used engine in - ~£5k and the possibility of it also failing, see this thread: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
4. Sell the car as spares - lose a load of money

You could go and check the market value on Ebay and Auto Trader. However, at 13k, I don't think it would be worth repairing. If memory serves, those engines are about £7k outside of Land Rover. 2016 means its at least ULEZ, so might be worth saving. Ingenium Engine is a terrible effort from Land Rover and the failure rate is very common from what I see on the tinternet. Plenty of D5 owners on their second and third engine.
The other option if he can wait is QP online.
They have a good reputation for rebuilding the 2.0 ingenium engines.
Plus the 3.0 v6 diesels that go in various land rovers.
Only issue being they are in Maidstone….
Which isn’t local in the slightest.
A rebuilt engine with the updated timing chains and an oil change schedule of 8-9k is much better.
The 21k oil intervals are dangerously long for the engine.
