Hi all,

Desperate for some advice please.

Last week, the car started to intermittently display a message (when the push button start was pressed) that 'the steering lock needed to be released' before it would start.

We went on line to check what the solution was - and it was, (as I almost expected), to take the pressure off the steering lock by moving the steering wheel and then pressing the start button.

This seems to be a bit 'hit and miss' though and, this evening, my wife was stuck for 30 minutes jiggling the wheel - that, magically, decided to release itself after constant attempts to perform the solution.

It almost seems that it's on a timer. It seems to be happening every time we get in the car now so has the potential for leaving us stranded. :-(

After my wife eventually got home, I tried myself to get the lock to engage - but, couldn't get it to.

As I say, up until last week this was not a problem at all and the car started first time - it's not been in for a service and we haven't changed anything.

Other things we have tried is pressing the memory button and adjusting the steering wheel - makes no difference however.

What surprises me is that there are no solutions on the Internet - despite there being a number of posts and videos entitled 'how to unlock a locked Range Rover steering wheel', all of them suggest that this should be easy to do and that it's normal.

Could anyone provide a suggestion please?

If it was simply that we need to be more 'robust' in moving the wheel (the advice on the Range Rover site says 'gently', BTW) then that would be fine. It's not about technique though as far as I can tell and more about whether the car decides to let itself be started.

I am worried though that it's going to get us stuck more permanently.

Any suggestions please?

Thank you.

Ian
