Anyone know how to remove a fairy overdrive unit from a Series 3 land rover???

It's been on ever since I've had the landy.

I know I'll need a blanking plate and apparently I need a sleeve and bearing too???

Can anyone help??

I might have the cover plate / bearing carrier and gear in the garage, I'll have a look. Why are you removing it, do you want to sell it? If so I would be interested - and would definitely have the gear and cover plate / bearing carrier as removed from my 1958 Series 1 88"...

I'm trying to get the overdrive off because I suspect that it has gone kaput!!

I can't get any movement of the vehicle - just a gnashing of gears - I'm hoping it's just the overdrive - it was always quite noisy¬!!!!

any guidance on removing it would be greatly appreciated!!!

Remove nuts holding overdrive to transfer gearbox and disconnect linkage. Put main and transfer gearbox in neutral and then pull the overdrive. Might need to flick the starter (with main gearbox in 4th) to "encourage" the gears to disengage from mesh as you pull the overdrive off the mainshaft...

Hope this helps...

You will need:
input gear, washer and castle nut, cover plate / bearing carrier.
