Churchill Cancelling my Disco 5 Insurance

I havnt been around for long time on PH, but just seen a few other mentions of problematic insirance with LR.
I was speaking to Churchill today about a 2nd policy for a new car for my wife. we also had to amend something on the policy for the Disco.
2 hrs later I received a voice-mail from Churchill saying they will have to cancel my current policy.
At first I freaked out as having insirance cancelled could be a massive issue in the future, however after speaking to Churchill they say they are canceling it through no fault of mine and will refund me the policy and it will be cancelled down on 16th March.
If I'm honest I was thinking of selling up. I think this leaves me with no choice but to send it off asap.

I can understand Insurers advising you of a non renewal but midterm ?

I can understand Insurers advising you of a non renewal but midterm ?

This is odd - I too have just received confirmation from Churchill that they are terminating a policy on 16/03/24 for one of my cars - due to exceptional circumstances not of my making! Strikes me as a little odd! The car in question is being sold so I’ll wait until it’s gone before I publish what it is! If any Insurance company is trying to cancel policies en masse mid term to restrict their downside and assuming none of these are because the policyholder has done anything “ wrong “ , I would imagine they will find themselves in a lot of bother with both the Ombudsman and the FCA. In fact I would go as far as to say if this is the case they would be possibly be doing this without any reference first to either their legal or compliance departments.
I’m sure the likes of consumer protection entities would also be all over it.
As such it is very difficult to imagine this is the case albeit not impossible.
Afaik the only type of Insurance cover that can be cancelled post payment of premium and assuming that “utmost good faith “ has been applied by both parties is esoteric coverage such as Trade Credit Insurance and this potential is written into the coverage at the outset.

Not offering renewal terms though is something quite different. Poor behaviour not to give a reason.
Nothing may have changed for you but it obviously has for them.
My wife had a strange insurance thing happen about 15 years ago (her 45 yo at the time)..... she had a Mondeo insured via Tesco and we changed the car to a Ka and Tesco said they were unable to insure it and refunded pro-rata. Nothing else had changed aside from changing a 'big' car to a small one. We were very puzzled by this. Insurance elsewhere was easily arranged the next day.

This is true - but how many people in the last 12 months have been refused? Anyone who’s failed to get a quote through LR insurance has effectively been refused insurance - therefore circa 90% of those on PH alone who’ve done it would have to tick that box.I’ve just checked the email I received and it actually says they won’t be renewing and that it runs out on 16th. I didn’t realise it was due for renewal so in my case the 16th is purely coincidental. That said - does ‘not being renewed’ constitute as being refused?

Which is perfectly acceptable business practice albeit annoying for you.
I suspect the OP story may well turn out to be either similar or his original information supplied at the outset may not have been 100% accurate.
Not being renewed as per my reply above does not constitute either a refusal or cancellation.
