Hi, trying to renew my insurance on a D130. This was purchased new in Jan 2023. The insurance are asking for a very specific criteria - that the immobiliser security device (immobiliser and alarm) conforms to Thatcham Cat 1 standards. Without this, there is no cover in the event of theft. Sadly the dealership are unable to confirm, so wondering if others have come across this issue. Appreciate any guidance on this. thanks

What an odd question from your insurers. Thatcham Cat 1 is an absolutely ancient standard - came out in the 90s in the times of Cosworths and hot hatches being nicked, when we all started fitting aftermarket alarms. I'd be amazed if any car has been made in many years that didn't have security that is way above Cat 1.

Yeah - I know. In fairness this is Saga insurance but they are coming out 50% below others. I just don't want to get caught out by some technicality incase the car goes AWOl. Cheers

There have been a couple of threads recently where even Land Rover insurance are refusing cover for their own cars in certain areas.

It appears that they are the modern equivalent of Cosworths in terms of getting stolen.

Yes, appreciate that, most LR products round here now seem to be fitted with steering wheel bars or diskloks when parked up, which really takes one back to the days of Cossies!

Still seems odd to ask if the alarm/immobiliser, which is now a very integrated part of every vehicle, complies with an ancient standard. Surely they all do?

Thanks - yes I can download the certificate which confirms the Tracker complies with S5... and landrover have confirmed that S5 is the highest level of security they provide. BUT neither confirm the requirements that the immobiliser conforms to Thatcham Cat 1... which is what the insurance are asking. i am trying to get the insurance to accept the S5 certificate but it is circular. FWIW the Saga insurance quote is 50% of the LV renewal quote... hence I want to make it work! Will report back if successful

Mine is a 2018MY which is a Cat6, Cat5 are indeed a more secure category. I'm not sure if the later models have a cat5 tracker.

Did you have any luck with this? I've just been invited by Saga to renew with them instead of my current insurer shortly so forearmed is forewarned!
