Discovery 2 Td5 replacement
Discussion
I need to replace my Disco td5, due to failing its MOT, with major corrosion issues including braking and power steering issues etc. with a reliable disco workhorse At the moment my preference would be for another Disco td5, but I am questioning whether I want to go back to vehicle 20 plus years old, with the corrosion issues that could repeat itself.
Of the disco td5s I have viewed, all have had issues with rust, although one I am presently considering a td5 2004 automatic with 100k miles on the clock, six years of MOTs showing no corrosion issues and twelve months MOT.
However I have spent many hours reading through PH Land Rover Discovery 3 & 4 posts, and the attraction of replacing the Discovery td5 with a newer 10 plus years reliable Discovery 3 &4 is growing by the day.
From all the PH posts that I have read I have been particularly influenced by the contents of two posts, one by poster Lodelaner that mirrors my thoughts on the D2 td5 * link below, the second by politeperson in support of the Discovery 3, ** link below.
I have owned three disco td5s, and apart from the issue with rust, they have been the most comfortable, enjoyable reliable vehicles I have owned, but should I now look for a replacement workhorse newer disco model, disco 3 and/or 4, low mileage, regular service, and possibly postponing the issue with chassis corrosion.
