We live on a small holding and use our disco 4 as a family car but also on the land, not severe offroading but towing stock box with animals over fields and through mud etc.

Current tires are near end of life and to be frank they are crap. Basically road tires I think but aqua plane on roads and offer little grip off them. We live down a lumpy stone track.

I therefore am looking for a recommendation for best tires for the car. They must be capable off road but I don't need mud pluggers, comfortable on road not impacting economy as much as I can help, and must be robust for our drive and good for general general use as a family car.

Any experts on here who can advise best ones I could go for as I don't have any idea!

Thanks!

Land Rover fit Goodyear Wrangler All Terrain Adventure Tyres as their more hardcore (option) offering on new Defender models - might be worth seeing if they (Goodyear) sell them in the correct fitment for your Disco?

Pirelli scorpions on our Disco 3. Seem to work well although it isn’t off road too much.

What size of wheel?

As that’s going to dictate tyres.

Same as on my D3 then.

Lots of people, including myself use Goodyear Duratrac tyres.
Currently Costco have them on offer if you have a card, you can get them for £120 a corner plus fitting.
I’ve used them for over 100k and have never had issues with them.

Will have a look thanks, are they good off road?

Interesting comment about the tyre tread pattern affecting fuel economy. I found that changing from General Grabber TR (very road-biased) to Goor Year MT/R there was no discernible difference in fuel consumption - driving style and journey type has a much bigger impact. The only financial impact would be that the Grabbers didn't seem to wear whereas I suspect the MT/R will last about 45,000 or so miles.

Interesting, I just assume heavier tread generates more noise so wastes more energy. I am quite careful with it so get up to 32mpg on just everyday driving.

General Grabber AT3 are hard to beat. I got 48000 miles out of my last set.

I fitted a set of Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus to my D4 a couple of years back.

Much more aggressive pattern than the OE All Weather.

No noticeable increase in road noise or fuel use. Have lasted well so far.
