Considering a 2nd hand FFRR
Discussion
My current F11 535 is getting a bit long in the tooth so I’m looking for a replacement.
I’ve never owned a RR and am tempted into a 2nd hand one for a couple of years.
I’m aware of their reputation and ability to chuck out a big bill of it goes wrong. But so it the BMW and my previous M cars. I’m not really looking to spend more and this will be used to ferry kids and their friends and sporting equipment around.
Is something like the one below financial suicide?
Are there any reliable buying guides I can be pointed at?

Thanks

I moved from an F10 530d to my FFRR, the Range Rover does nearly everything the 530d did but feels so much nicer to be in.
It won’t handle as well.
It will be slower.
After iDrive the infotainment will feel like an archaic culture shock but I quite like mine now.
Firstly please try & find an SDV8 not the 3.0 V6.
It’s a much more reliable engine.
Secondly find one that has been looked after.
Thirdly once you have one get a specialist to change all the fluids (presuming you aren’t comfortable doing it yourself).
Here’s my Readers Cars thread on my experience.

As above, check insurance quotes and ULEZ compliance first.
AIUI the electrics were given an upgrade in the “more reliable” direction in MY2015 cars. A 13 or 14 car may have had any gremlins sorted by now but I think I’d want to know a bit about its history from previous owners.
As a driver though a FFRR is great. It won’t be as quick as your BMW but if you’re trying to hustle a FFRR along on anything other than a motorway you’re missing the point. They’re serene. They make you feel serene. Imperious, even. You just don’t need to hurry - take your time and enjoy the journey, etc.

Thanks for the comments.
I fancied the RR as I want something big and comfortable to cover long journeys. I’m not too bothered about the speed of going for absolute comfort.
But, having just looked at the cost of insurance. I think I’m going to pass.
I’m in Cambridgeshire and the premium is nearly triple my 535. Fook that.

Don't bother with the TDV6. Get the 4.4TDV8.
That seller has a good reputation in RR circles though.
As others have said, check insurance first. Its not a case of costs going up, its a case some insurers just refusing to cover them.
Its a Land Rover product, so just accept that it will go wrong. Just check that everything works as it should. By all means thumb through the service history, but that is no guarantee of anything really.

I see it has sold did you buy it OP?
No I didn’t.I’m still trying to make my mind up on what I want. I flip between getting another fast wagon (and then I think I might as well keep the 35) and something soft and comfortable to do 20k miles a year in.
Insurance in a FFRR is putting me off, but then insurance on everything seems to be going up.
