Help please - what engine for first time new RRS buyer?
Discussion
Hi all
I am looking at buying a new RRS for the wife to replace her Cayman as we need something bigger..
We went to look at a few options today and found the big RR too big and the new Cayenne very uninspiring.
The RRS was very nice and I now need to decide whether to go petrol or diesel (P400 or D300).
Possibly the Hybrid would be ideal for us but 12+ month wait isn’t an option so unless I can find a cancelled order in an acceptable spec it’s petrol or Diesel (quoted 3/4 months to get).
I’m unlikely to keep it longer than 3/4 years.
Car will do short journeys in the week - a lot of nipping around 5-15 min journeys and then longer runs at the weekends.
My initial thoughts were that petrol would be better. However the salesman said all the issue with diesels and DPFs etc are a thing of the past.
Really appreciate any help as I need to order quite quickly.
Can anyone advise as to P400 mpg?

I can't vouch for reliability etc these days, but the D300 seems to be regarded as a very fine engine. I would expect that your longer runs at the weekend should be sufficient to manage soot loads on the DPF so I would go for that. The RRS was very nice and I now need to decide whether to go petrol or diesel (P400 or D300).

Just replaced a D300 AB with a P440E AB, had the D300 for just over 2 years, used it exactly as you intend to use it, had no reliability issues at all, no DPF issues either.
The engine is lovely, beautifully smooth and very quiet.
Averaged 26mpg over 2 and a bit years, but on a long run would see over about 40 ish.
