Possibly snapped camshaft - Discovery 4
Discussion
Morning all (not a good one though)!
I was on the M40 yesterday afternoon when my 60k mile D4 suddenly flashed up a “restricted performance” message and lost power - I managed to get to the hard shoulder safely.
Car got recovered and the recovery guy had a look and thinks the drivers side camshaft has snapped. No sign of metal in the oil fortunately but the car is clearly on running on 3 cylinders.
Does anyone have any recommendations for specialists that could repair this? The car is stuck in High Wycombe (Bucks) but I live in Kent. Would be expensive to recover it to the specialist I normally use at home - but I do not have any experience with anyone in the Wycombe area.
I just need to keep my fingers crossed that it is a clean break and there are no bits of metal in the engine itself. Not going to be a quick or cheap fix but I don’t really want to have to replace the engine.
Feeling pretty gutted - the car has been totally reliable for the last 7.5 years until today but this is a pretty major failure. Annoying as has been serviced and oil changed every 12 months and only doing 8k miles a year.

Further update and looks like it is the crank shaft - so a known failure point.
I now need to work out if it economical to repair - WBAC value about £16k with no faults so it is going to be marginal. Will be approaching LR to see if there is any goodwill but not holding my breath.
Anyone know what the value of the car may be in this state?

If you are in Kent, have a look at QP Online as they are considered one of the best re-builders out there. You are looking at £6-9k though. There are also other companies out there that do it for £4500-6000, but who knows what sot of quality you will get. As a 2016 its worth about £5k I suppose.
As you say, don't hold your breath on any goodwill from LR.
