Dare I buy a 80k miles RRS?
Discussion
I’ve a soft spot for land rovers and have had a Disco 3 which was excellent and a disco 4 which had many problems and both were from main dealers and more recently a Freelander 2 which was good but need something bigger with 3 kids and a dog.
I keep looking RR Sporrs and love the look of them and have a seen a 2017 good spec one, one owner with full LR service history with 80k miles but not from a main dealer.
With it having 80k miles which is a bit above average and FSH, could that actually be a good thing so if anything has gone wrong, it’s been fixed already or should I still be worried and buy an sq5 which is next on my list?

Just buy the car you’ll be happiest in. They can all break.
You’re probably aware that whilst an S5 is much quicker on the road they are quite poorly equipped next to a RR sport.
Yeah its a tough choice. I do like the toys and extras on the RRS but am a bit worried about parking it in supermarket and shopping car parking spaces due it being bigger even with the camera. You’re probably aware that whilst an S5 is much quicker on the road they are quite poorly equipped next to a RR sport.
The Q5 might be the sweet spot in terms of external size but there is something about the RRS...

They are great looking cars and I have also been looking at those. However, if its the 3.0 V6 diesel, they have a terrible reputation and just keep that in the back of your mind. If the worst happens with that engine its £5-10k for a new engine. My preference would be:
- red with full colour coding
- pan roof
- light interior
- heated steering wheel
- low box
- no third row (Discounts Autobiography spec)
Best of luck

I had an SQ5 before I bought my RRS.
The SQ5 is very quick, but lacking any soul. Not particulary comfortable and the boot is too small.
My RRS is a 2016 SDV6 HSE, just coming up to 80k, is probably the best car I've owned. The only thing that has gone whong is the air suspension pump and it was replaced under warranty.

I'm sure it'll be fine. I bought a '65 plate Disco 4 with 80k on it in 2019, no documented service history as it was serviced by the company who ran it, a assume an outfit that ran a lot of plant and machinery. But, it was running new discs, premium tyres in good nick all round, had clearly been the bosses car, presumably pounding between sites as the load area (its a commercial) was immaculate despite the age / miles.
I did take it to a specialist for a full service and a thorough check over. No fault codes and a general comment that everything that should be done seems to have been done.
Treated it to a gearbox flush and new oil, and more recently its 100k / 7 year belt change and it's been as good as gold for the 25k I've done in it and have it serviced every year regardless of mileage on the basis that prevention is likely to be much cheaper than cure...if anything happened. Not a hint of an issue other than the usual occasional suspension warnings 'normal ride height only' that come and go for no obvious reason.
It's a lovely old bus to roll around in. I have to admit though, looking at all the horror stories it sits in my mind it may have some catastrophic failure, but then, there are thousands of these around that do mega mileages without any hint of issue that you just don't hear about. So I don't worry about it. If it'll happen, it'll happen. I've done all I can to mitigate the potential.
