Just done 1000kms (mostly around 100kph on dual carriageways) and it's used 2.5 tanks of diesel. This seems pretty poor to me.

It could have slightly binding brakes as I know the caliper springs are shot. Otherwise, I've heard that replacing the MAF may help. What else should I be looking at?

All oils & grease points done in last 12 months. It's a manual with BFG KM3 tyres (but they were inflated pretty high as it was a long run).

Sounds about right to me, mine was terrible on fuel, before and after mapping, I used to do a regular 530 mile round trip, it always used 2 tankfulls.
I also had a Discovery TD5, that would struggle to manage 24mpg, I had the big Iveco daily van at the same time if driven the same would do 35mpg.

It's as aerodynamic as a brick wall and has low gearing for torque, so the factory numbers of 25.4 mpg is what you can expect.

Tiz what it is.

As well as the (lack-of) aerodynamics, you're also driving 2x gearboxes.. They're not built for economy.

Ok, maybe I was taking the manufacturer's figures too literally.

I've never been that concerned about mpg as I've generally bought daft cars but had rather hoped for more given the amount of work I've done on servicing etc.

Apart from wind noise, it took the journey in it's stride and I only have a slightly sore back and shoulders smile

They’re an odd one, I have a Td5 discovery and that’s also poor on fuel,

As said aero of a brick, heavy and perm 4wd,

If you’re doing plenty of milage, have a look at a remap, mines around 180/190 bhp helps quite abit with moving it along.
