They produce a expensive flawed product, with questionable reliability and running cost.

Then they're stolen ad hock. Another colleague has just had one liberated from their drive, people in the village now own a few extra vehicles just so they can block the Rangies in overnight.

So don't buy one then. No one is forcing you.

It would be handy if the unreliability kicked is whilst they were being stolen.

Buy an old one, nobody steals those. I’d dare somebody to steal my P38 if they think they can handle the iffy electrics, air suspension and insatiable thirst for unleaded!

I'm tempted by an older tatty freelander 2.

I don't know why.

Good cars and many say the most reliable model LR ever made.

And probably less stolen than other models. Something doesn't add up.

When they are working and plenty do work fine, not like the internet where everybody knows someone who had one stolen while broken down waiting for the AA for the twenty third time that day.

They are actually good cars, that do many things and do them well.

It’s not just modern ones, a good friend had his late bro in laws 90 stolen from the driveway. Never seen again.

Get a good one and they are brilliant.
Get a bad one and they will ruin you.
There doesn’t really seem to be a middle ground for them.

Grumps.

Car theft in general is on the rise, but LR have leapt to the number one spot.

Its probably down to dealers not giving a toss, lack of spare parts for warranty claims so its easier to source a spare from ebay on the cheap, from a 'breaker'.

I would add my D4 has been faultless I’ve the 8 years I’ve owned it. Apart from the split intake manifolds which are a known weakness.

Quite a few around me, I do wonder how well off people must be to buy them new - the price lists are mad, and that’s coming from someone on a decent wage

Think the same about the amount of Model X’s I see, but I reckon that might be BiK related

Fantastic car had mine 5 years. Great tow car, very comfortable. Small boot by Landrover standards, still big by car standards. 190 hp automatic. Mpg about 33 average 36/37 on a run. Can't fault it. Unfortunately the Discovery Sport is not proving to be an upgrade I aspire to.

You can get a 2.2 in the Discovery Sport. My 2.2 Evoque has been a lovely car. Going this week though for a 3.0 X3.

You live in the midlands.
Ever thought about moving somewhere more civilised?

I’m on Landrover number 5 (or maybe 6 I forget), great comfy drive, versatile family car, my current one is quick and fun to drive, good dealer who picks up and drops off at home, never had big reliability issues (unlike any Porsche I’ve owned), acceptable value retention, feels more special than the X5s or ML I’ve owned, anything decent risks being stolen etc.

I've owned a LR Discovery, RR Evoque and a RR Sport in the UK. Not a single issue with any of them. All worked very well, all good cars. None stolen, none unreliable.

My Dad has owned a Defender and an LR Discovery in South Africa. Zero issues with either of them.

The earliest DS, up to 2016 I believe. Not worth changing from a 2014 Freelander and paying the premium.

They make the most stylish SUVs You only have to look at the competition to see how hard it is.
