2016 Range Rover LWB L405 Hybrid Repair Cost
Discussion
2016 Range Rover LWB L405 Hybrid, stopped dead on me, had it recovered to JLR Main dealer, they have had it three weeks trying to find the fault, just received this email below
“We have carried out all diagnostic checks and have found metal filings throughout the fuel system.
The indications are that the fuel pump has broken up internally and then got pumped through the system and the fuel tank.
Your vehicle requires the full fuel system as the repair.
The costs are as follows:
Parts- £10,784.63 +VAT
Labour- 36 hours @ £160 + VAT per hour = £5760 + VAT
Total - £16,744.63 +VAT
With parts, labour and VAT all included it will be a total of £20,093.56 “
I have asked for a breakdown of the parts
Can anyone advise me where they have got these figures from, or if they are taking p**s
Thanks
Alan

LR dealers aren’t above taking the piss at times.
This plastic front of this part popped off my Defender: https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-LR061677
According to the dealer it is only available as part of a larger kit. And to fit it they need to do the entire kit. Which involves the dashboard coming out. Total cost, £ several hundred. The service manager eventually agreed that their computer system must be wrong and they could in fact sort it much cheaper.
In your position, I’d be trying to find out where the fuel filter sat in the system. Might be interesting if it is after the disintegrated pump.
Ultimately options are probably to
1) argue for “goodwill” from Land Rover and get the bill reduced a bit;
2) take it to a specialist for a second opinion/alternative fix;
3) pay up.

That makes sense, the Fuel Filter should be doing its job and catching anything, if anything got past that, it would have started to run rough as not all six injectors would have blocked together, thinking about it, I had the same problem with a Jaguar XJ, same engine and I presume roughly the same fuel pump in the tank, one day it just wouldn't start, I changed the pump and filter and was all okay, I think they are just covering themselves
I am going down to speak to them now and get them to change the pump and filter and see what happens
Thanks

So I called into the dealer, they said it was JLR policy to change the whole fuel system, even if you had put AdBlu into the fuel tank, I have requested for the fuel pump and filter to be replaced, also the fuel lines to be blown back to clear anything in there and the fuel tank cleaned
They said that may work, but the new pump would not be covered by the 2 year warranty as I haven't changed the full system
Let's hope that works
Thanks

Hi
No warranty,
No Adblue, it doesn't take it,
I still haven't got the car back yet
They sent me an email saying that a reconditioned fuel pump is on back order, new one is £1420+vat, I didn't know they supplied reconditioned ones
Thanks
Alan
They tend too when it’s a common part for failure. No warranty,
