My 2016 SDV8 has reached the 80,000 mark (or will do very shortly).

Just asked my local RR specialist for a quote to flush the auto box refill with fluid including pan/filter kit.

I was told they don't have the equipment to carry out a flush but to drain fluid and fit new sump etc they are quoting £744.00.

This includes their labour charge for 2.5 hours.

Sounds a tad expensive to me or am I "out-of date with the times"?

Do a search for Bodsy on the Disco3 forum. He does a full flush and replace at your residence.

Yep. 750 is about right.

That’s on the expensive side.

To mega flush my freeby 2 twice was only £500ish.
As the oil was that bad it needed done twice to get it all out.

I would use a place that has the mega flush machine to get all the fluid out as a simple drain and fill doesn’t get all the oil out.

Permit me to jump on this thread.

I have a LR DS 2.2 , ie the first version with the Ford engine etc as per a Freelander 2. It is coming up to 8 years old and 55,000 miles. I have been wondering when the time will be to have the gearbox flushed and the oil replaced. Is there a general view about this?

I would agree that for a full flush through etc would be around £750 but they are only changing the pan kit and adding fluid back to the full level.
Not quite the same amount of work or fluid, is it?

Agreed the flush is often better than the drop, but I'd rather ZF fluid and filters - they do servicing kits for the ZF8 (sump, screws, fluid etc.) if that's what is being used I would crack on.

You may get a flush for 200 quid cheaper, but I doubt it would be OEM fluid - how much this matters I don't know, but its such an infrequent expense I would ensure it is the right stuff.

Not quite the same gearbox.
But for the 6 speed in the Discos, ZF recommend 50-75k intervals for changing.

Personally, I would get it changed soon.

My freeby 2 got done last summer at 12*k, I can’t mind the exact mileage but the oil was black, hence it took 2 goes on the machine to get fully flushed.
First owner used it to drag a horse box about so it had been worked hard.

I’ll be getting mine flushed again at 150k.

I was quoted over £900 by the MD a few months ago. A specialist was around £600

Thanks AJM.

I'm not surprised that the oil was as you describe after 120,000 miles!

My LR DS 2.2 has an auto gearbox. It is a 9 speed ZF-H. I guess it is approaching the time for a gearbox flush and oil change etc.
