New Defender? After thoughts and ownership details
Discussion
Hi all
I’m contemplating buying a newish defender 110. Probably 2020ish. Around the £60-£65k mark.
What are peoples thoughts about how these will depreciate? I’m assuming they will be more like the discovery etc than the old defenders that held their value very well.
Are there any owners out there who could detail ownsership experience please? Reliability/running costs etc
I’ve owned several defenders in the past, but they’ve all been older ones.
Many thanks

I'd have a look over here, there's a section for the new L663 Defender that might be of use.

I had been a Land Rover supporter for over 30 years. However, after shocking experiences with my last 2 new vehicles I left the brand in 2016. The issues with the last vehicles were poor design, poor manufacture, and complacency from Land Rover and the dealer network. I tried several dealerships and gave up.
In 2021 i bought one of the new Defenders hoping things are changed. It has been sold.
It was a lovely vehicle to drive but nothing had changed. The assembly was poor and there were regular niggly problems. Fail to start until 3rd attempt, warning lights for 4wd system, telemetry failure, air suspension would play up (compressor running for no reason) etc.
Each time there was a problem it was a hassle to get the dealer to look at it. Even when Land Rover diagnosed the telemetry problem remotely the dealer wanted two days to change the telemetry unit. They had to do their own diagnosis and then order a unit from the factory.
A poor and shocking experience for a £70k vehicle.

I've had a 90 for four months (the P400) and love it, although I don't trust it 100%.
Things I like:
The look.
The heated screen.
The automatic hold when I stop.
The cruise control toggle (lets me drive while eating a sausage & egg Mcmuffin).
Things I dislike:
The door rubbers creak (I have some lube for that though!).
It doesn't always start on first press of the button (doesn't even turn over).
MPG isn't great, I average 25.

That’s a shame you don’t trust it. How old is the car? What mileage? Things I like:

Going to test drive one next week so will see what we think then.
We owned a December 2020 first edition 110 7 seater since new (26 months) and done 32k miles.
It i the wife's daily car, driven in the rain, sun, and snow, as well as on a 3 week, 3k miles tour all over Europe.
Best car we owned, and it has been 100% reliable, beyond perhaps once having to restart the sat nav.
Goes in a couple of weeks, sold to a dealer (to be replaced by an ID Buzz).
The list price when it was new was about £68k (we got a big discount on the new), and we sold it for mid £50s.

Had mine since May ‘22. It’s a D250 X Dynamic S with about £6k of extras. It’s been absolutely faultless. I chose this model because I wanted the smaller wheels and more tyre.
I wouldn’t personally touch a 4cyl diesel and they actually stopped selling them in Oct/Nov 2021 just as I ordered my 6 cyl car (make of that what you will). Previous car was an L494 Range Rover Sport. Wife loves it too and chose the colour.
Best option was the full length folding roof. Now fitted with gloss black steps and full size OEM Land Rover country mudflaps.

That’s what ours would be for- wife’s daily for local trips then the odd European trip of a few thousand miles

We’ve decided we definitely want the panoramic roof and the d250.

It's just one year old, 4000 miles.Going to test drive one next week so will see what we think then.
It's just the starting that causes the lack of total trust. I worry one day it won't no matter how many times I press the button.
