Range Rover evoque sometimes cutting out
Discussion
All,
Ive a problem the garage cannot fix. They assured me i had a maf sensor fault (as when they unplugged it my car still ran, plug it in the car would cut out on occasion)
It does run without the MAF in but its underpowered. Ive tried a new sensor, no difference. With the sensor in it does run rich and i can smell a whiff of petrol occasionally.
Car is 2014 2.0 turbo.
Please educate me,and my garage!

Have they actually checked the fault codes?
Or just hoping and praying for a result?
The car will tell you via the fault codes what’s wrong.
That is not always the case. Or just hoping and praying for a result?

The fault codes are a starting point, nothing more nothing less.
Has changing the maf sensor made it better? Yes/no.
Have the mechanics checked why it smells rich?
Have they checked the sensors that would monitor the fuel/air ratio?
I noticed this OBD fault killer device - it obvs will not solve the problem and if it is critical then it needs further fixing but it could be used to probably stop the annoying cut out.
(it would not allow me to add the link) so google "design 911" and then in the search type "obd"
I think it is not manufacturer specific.
We had a car that kept doing random cut outs and none of the main dealers could find or fix it - I talked to an indie and he said staight away "that will be the throttle potentiometer" - they changed it and it fixed it.
I would be phoning the indies and having a chat - you can always send them a gift or pay them for some time on the phone.
