Hi all,

My electronic parking brake (EPM Module) has failed on my 2015 Discovery 4. My independent mechanic has looked inside the module and the gears have destroyed themselves and has recommended replacing the entire assembly (pricey!). He's advised not to use one of the repair kits.

Living in Australia, a genuine EPB is approx. $1700 (GBP970) - wondering if I can get something reconditioned in the UK and get my family to ship to Oz - does anyone know of stockists of reclaimed/refurbed modules? I have seen some where you need to send back your original as "part exchange", but with postage this wouldn't be economical!

Part number is LR072318.

Any help appreciated!

Cheers,
J.

A quick search shows (remember to use google.co.uk, not google.com.au) there are plenty of options on ebay.co.uk, aftermarket options on amazon.co.uk and various UK suppliers such as Rimmer Brothers.

Have you asked the same question on AULRO?

Yes, tried on AULRO but no success unfortunately.

I've seen there are lots of cheaper after-market Chinese variants of the same part (on ebay and elsewhere); do you think they're likely to be any better / worse than a refurbished JLR part?

That price sounds quite reasonable tbh. I've heard bills of around £2k for the EPB module. Probably one of the worst features on the D3/4. Mine broke twice in 18 months depsite servicing. Got utterly fed up with it and you live in constant fear when ever you operate it.

Ha... Yes!

I almost never use it but it's currently working surprisingly well since the last service.

They are quite straightforward to rebuild using one of the numerous kits out there. Just be careful set the preload of the cables/shoes correctly upon reassembly and you're good to go.
I've even seen some YouTube videos where the module repair is done without fully removing the unit from the car.

That was early advise on the forums, which is now pretty much wrong from what I've gathered. Use it as often and as its needed. Resting it in 'P' on a hill is a no no as the pin in the gearbox is tiny and they can brake under the weight of holding the entire car.

I was in a hope that the D4 ran an improved design...Clearly not frown

Mine literally broke the day before the new owner was due to pick it up. Ended up paying £400 to get the thing fixed...again!
