Defender P400e PHEV with improved battery / electric range?
Discussion
I'm looking to buy my wife a Defender P400e PHEV through work, mainly in order to take advantage of the BIK before it no doubt gets scrapped, but I've noticed that the "battery only" range on this car is only 27 miles (real world reported as around 20!).
Before I place an order, does anyone know if there are any imminent plans to release an updated version of this car with an improved battery range?

The PHEV RRS has a range of 70 miles now; I think they’ve attached the system to the 3.0 petrol rather than the 2.0.
It must be almost inevitable that it’ll find its way into a Defender shortly. FWIW, I had a P400e Defender on order and swapped it to a D300 as I simply couldn’t make the numbers work for the electric, although I wasn’t getting any tax breaks so that might swing it.

The defender is more than 50g per km so no tax breaks available. RRS is where it is at for that with 5% bik - under 50g and 70 miles EV range.
The discovery sport has just had an upgraded battery fitted so its range has gone up
I don’t think there is any scope for the defender to be uprated with better range - not designed for it (unlike RR and RRS which will be full EV in a couple of years). Next version in however many years will have it - and there are rumours of a super defender EV but that will be very expensive

Thanks for your comments crumpet, and particularly oop north, you've just saved me the hassle of contacting our accountant!!
I didn't realise that, so over 50g and there's no benefit - Might as well look at a petrol or diesel then, as apparently the MPG is poor on the PHEV, so if there's no tax benefit, there really is no point buying it!
Thanks again oop north, that's a big help

The benefit is 19%, so although there is a benefit, it's arguable as to how useful it is, under 50g is clearly far more beneficial. I looked at a P400e and it's still over 7k pa in BIK.
Must admit it all seems a bit of a minefield, I've only done a limited amount of Googling so take with a pinch of salt, there seem to be salary sacrifice schemes based on lease options but I can't clearly see if the P400e would be covered by that. If it was, at £1250/mth on a 4 year lease as a 40% (would be more of a saving as a 60%) taxpayer it would be coming off your gross salary but even then it's still £750 odd a month (at 40% tax rate).
