To my mind this looks pretty good. Bit of corrosion on the doors and underneath mentioned on the last MOT, query over the mileage possibly as it looks like the Speedo was borked a few years ago.

Tell me why I should run (or not)? And how much do you think it'll go for??

It looks like a not quite finished project, so you may need to be prepared to get your hands dirty or have someone fix the myriad niggles.

Mileage is most likely 102,217 according to the ad (or possibly 202,217 hehe).

The ad said:
  • Non air-conditioning dashboard installed, but original dash is included with the sale [air con removed]
  • We’re informed that the fuel and choke lights are currently not working
  • The centre console trim is included but currently not fitted
  • The paint of the roof and bonnet has suffered quite a bit of UV damage and would benefit from being refreshed [despite a respray in 2014 scratchchin]
  • 3,528cc V8 engine reported to run well, with the only issues reported being that the choke needs some adjustment
  • There is some oil leaking from the rocker gasket and sump
  • There is a slight power steering fluid weep, but a reconditioned PAS box and steering column are included in the sale
  • Air-conditioning condenser and pump not present
Presented in very good, usable condition, this Range Rover Classic would be ideal as a daily classic or as a rolling restoration project.

Looks quite clean. Gut feel, that could go for £8k ish....

I'd want to see pics of of the interior rather than just trying to get a gate guard in the background (Seller thinking that will help the sale)

I recently listened to James Martin interview where he talks about his restoration of a three door. It was surprisingly challenging because of getti0ng some of the parts that just aren't available anymore and he ends up sourcing things from far and wide, so don't buy it thinking an LR will be easy to restore. This is also someone who is now looking to sell his series 3 which I've spent 10 years off and on restoring.

I like this car - about as simple as RRCs get and it looks very usable. Even though they're slow and thirsty - but I guess you know that. I am biased thoug - I love RRCs, had a 2dr myself and will have another one before I'm done with cars!

The In-Vogue 3 was the first 4dr manual Vogue and was the first year of the 5 speed gearbox. It was the first year with central locking, when the locks were located in the door handle, and the tailgate was counterbalanced plus a load of other details that should have been sorted years before etc.

Although the seller is making much of its rarity and provenance, it isn't worth extra money because it's not original with and loads of details need fixing to make it right - e.g. reinstate AC, central locking, find/have made the twin coachline, decals rather than raised plastic letters, put a proper exhaust on it, fit tailgate seals top and bottom, sort mudflaps and mounts, replace rear view mirrors, fit later black bumpers, replace drivers internal door release handle with black one, replace 'Shelley' screw jack with hydraulic one - and source a matching coolbox of course!

So as it stands it should be priced as an early 4 door long stick 5 spd that's rolling but in need of paint and details and (probably) a bit of welding rather than anything special like an original Wood and Picket 2 dr Range Rover Vogue. I'd pay 7k all day long.

Thanks all for the reality checks! After a day at work I'm a lot less keen on a wheezy, thirsty rolling resto. biggrin

I'd want to have a really good look at the chassis - remember, they rust from the inside out...

Would need to drive it and look at to see how good or bad.

Shouldn't it have the Lt-95 gearbox though? Also shouldn't have a centre locking diff (LT-230). Suspect this is why the trim is also missing (it probably doesn't fit). Technically this change would loose points, but not enough to effect anything, unless you did more major mods.

Most Stromberg carbs are knackered on these V8's as the diaphragm needs replacing, you also need a special tool to properly adjust them, which very few people seem to have. Not saying these are, but a high likely hood. But the claim of the choke needing adjusting sounds somewhat dodgy.... why would you not have done it already?

Otherwise looks ok, if non original.

Wow 9k - just caught up on this thread. The long stick LT77 and LT230 with diff lock is model correct.

There's a very original 3 speed auto Vogue for sale on C&C at the mo https://www.carandclassic.com/l/C1546727

Gorgeous. On the lookout for a RRC to restore after doing my 300TDi 90 galv swap in ‘21 and parting with it last month

Nice to see a strong market out there. biggrin

So I was about right then smile

That is probably better buy than an old Series as it will certainly be more usable smile
