Thought I would post up about our Sport that we took delivery of back in early October as it doesn't seem like anyone else has so far, and may be of interest to anyone whom has one coming or considering ordering one.

I must point out that i have never had any Range Rovers before due to almost everyone I know that's had one has had issues and likewise any RR thread on here immediately draws negative posts, but I have another British made car that are supposed to be woefully reliability and dealer wise, but after nearly 5 years and a few models, they have been utterly brilliant, so I thought I would give RR a go; so far, it has been excellent.

The car.

Colour is Firenze Red with the gloss black pack. Not a colour I would order, but in the flesh it is stunning and absolutely pops in daylight.
Seemingly its a longstanding JLR colour, but they have tweaked it significantly prior to the RRS launch, hence why lots of the press cars and launch pics are this colour.
Its certainly different from the previous dull firenze red that was on older models on the forecourt.

On the First Edition, the wheels are 23" and in this instance gloss black.

Never had black wheels before and never fancied them, but I have to say i really like them on this.

Any concerns about 23" and ride quality should be dismissed as whatever witchcraft they have come up with suspension wise, you are aware of no bumps or crashes regardless of the surface; quite simply its the best ride on any car I have driven.

Interior is called 'cloud' with an ebony contrast. I always spec our 4×4s interiors in this style as I think they feel like being in a cave otherwise. The seats are up there with the comfiest I have ever had my butt in.

The First Edition is complemented with a forged carbon finish to the dash and doors which is lovely.

The car is the plug in hybrid 510e version, and the 510 indicates the bhp, so its no slouch.

So far, in 1200 or so miles, I think we have used the petrol engine for about 50 miles if that.

3 driving modes are Hybrid, full EV, or Save which regenerates the battery.

When we collected it in early October, it was a cracking warm day; full charge indicated 76 miles, but with not requiring lights, heater, air con etc that day, we actually managed 84 before the engine kicked in.

Currently with very low temps or frost in the morning, full charge indicates around 57 miles as its based on recent range and battery usage, so with using the heated windscreen, heated massage seats, heated steering wheel, lights, air con etc, I still think that's fantastic especially for the size of this.

Its my wife's car and I don't think she has ever driven more than 50 miles in a day so its absolutely perfect for her; the car this replaced did 14mpg regardless how you drove it so removing about £400 a month on petrol is a gamechanger.

It currently shows an average of 143mpg, but that's based on hardly any petrol usage; however, still bizarre to see that figure!

Never calculated how much it costs to charge, but we have an off peak rate and have set the charge time on the car for midnight onwards, even though plugged in once it finished being used for the day.

We were offered this car as our 460 model has been delayed (a 440e Autobiography), and have to say I cannot see how much better the big brother can be.

Our dealer very kindly gave us their 120mile 460 demo a few weeks back for a weeks test drive which was a 510e SV model; great car but genuinely could not see where the near £50k difference in price was.

We originally put an order for a diesel 460 Autobiography on launch last October but swapped the deposit onto the 440e when it was announced in February.

However, unbeknown to us, our dealer kept our original order going and a month ago told us the diesel now has a confirmed build date in March and asked if we want to have that until our 440e finally arrives.

Really need to have a long think about this; the Sport is an absolute corker of a car.

Steve Sutcliffe from Autocar has already said he would actually pick the Sport over its big brother, and I can see why.

Anyways, hopefully this might be slightly helpful to someone whom is considering one of these, or deciding between this and a 460 as its not as clear cut as you may think.

Our diesel 460 Autobiography is only about £1500 more than this RRS First Edition, so its not really 'couldn't afford the big one' territory like before with the Sport and the Vogue, and like a Boxster / 911 scenario.

They have ramped up prices, but on the flip of that they are reducing supply to reduce the chronic depreciation these normally suffer.

The part supply issue has exasperated this, so with current order times to delivery being nearly 2 years, hopefully the values follow this and make a smaller depreciation more palatable.

On my ownership so far, i cannot recommend one of these enough, and likewise with the 2 weeks or so I have been given a 460 Autobiography and SV model to run about in.

They really have hit the bullseye.

Stunning colour and car. Though do not kid yourself about reducing supply they will pump out loads of them. If you ever visit Leamington Spa or Stratford upon Avon every new RRS you will see will be a JLR employee car and there are tonnes of them.

I do love the RRS but i just can’t get over the £80k price tag for a base spec car. A few years ago you could get a FFRR with a semi decent spec for £80k

Well jealous!

We picked up a P400 2 days ago as our P440e RRS wasn’t arriving when expected. Done a buy back deal which is a free car until it comes. Stunning build and the ride quality is mind blowing. I didn’t spec this one, so it’s a bit ‘dealer’ in black, black pack with the same cloud interior as yours. Silent to drive and so relaxing. Seats are the best I have ever sat in. We had specified a FFRR 440e but decided on the RRS after a drive showed it to be the same but cheaper. I wish I could have a dark green in it though.

Looking forward to the hybrid when it comes. Went balmoral spec of Portofino and tan…

Thanks for the positive comments folks.

For those of you whom have one, I think you would echo my comments; it really is a fantastic vehicle, and for those considering, hopefully this helps.

As mentioned its my wifes car and therefore the EV range is perfect; we took a 85 mile trip to Aberdeen for a night out last weekend and decided with a 15 mile range remaining to use the 'save' mode which locks the EV range and switches to ICE which in turn starts to regenerate EV so we could use that means in the town centre.

Problem being the swanky hotel had zero charging points which seems to be the 'norm' up here; even Gleneagles only has around 4.

This meant the journey home using ICE.

No great issue, but this is my first toe in the water for EV and been loving it that much that I had popped into our dealer to secure the 1st full EV big RR when it finally gets announced.

This brought it crashing home to me that hybrid is definately the best option for us for a seriously long time as the infrastructure just isn't there; look at the pics of q's of Teslas waiting to be charged at Christmas period.

For someone doing more miles, the diesel would most likely suit unless you required EV for town centres etc.

Great write up, the car looks fantastic especially in that colour combo.
I saw a red one outside our local dealer last week and it turned me head.
The battery range and mpg sounds impressive. The MIL has an outgoing model P400e which I've driven, I thought that was great but sadly haven't tried the new model yet.
We have a p300d which I would love to trade in for one like this I'm some way off yet!
Enjoy.

It's nearly come to the end of our 510e ownership.

This was my first toe in the water of Range Rover ownership after avoiding previous generations due to reliability issues; i can report it has been fantastic and been completly issue free.

In 6 months I still haven't put any petrol in it from the full tank it was supplied with, although petrol range does now show about 30miles....game changer for us as our previous 600bhp 4x4 drunk about £350 a month for the short runs my wife uses her car for.

Never again achieved the 80+ miles we managed on the first day of use in beautiful weather, but still does around 60 miles in current crap weather and low temps.

Although this plug in hybrid is fantastic, it has not convinced me to order one of the new fully electric ones arriving next year; range anxiety would definately creep in.

There are currently only 8 of these for sale on autotrader and the cheapest advertised at a proper mental £21k delta above what we paid nearly 6 months ago; its a great motor but paying that would be insane.

All in all, I would thoroughly recommend one of these new sports, and glad I decided to give it a go instead of reading all the negative Range Rover posts and never trying it out for myself.

Putting my money where my mouth is, its being replaced by a diesel Autobiography big brother next week; going to be gutted popping back into petrol stations again!
