Looking to buy a circa 2017 or maybe a facelift if they drop below 50k.

With regard to getting a LR inspection and subsequent LR warranty extension (if its expired)

If wheels are non standard ie 2018 RR wheels on a 2016 car, would that mean it wouldn't pass their (LR) inspection for the warranty?

Suggest you need to take that one up with LR.
No doubt there will be all sorts of terms, conditions & exclusions in the paperwork & they'll be able to give you the answer.

Watch out for the extended warranty.

It’s all nice and LR badged when they’re selling it.but try claiming and you’ll get all sorts of buck-passing about it being a separate company. Don’t expect repairs to be rapid, or that you’ll get a courtesy car either if you’re off the road for a long time.

The above bases on claims by myself and two friends who all had to argue to get work done. In my case the (main dealer supplied) vehicle was off the road for several months (at one point it was looking like it could have been as much as 9).

The extended warranty is not cheap, in the end I decided to not continue it and just use the money as an annual cost of service and repair.

Interesting points, just assumed their extended would be ‘ok’

Initially i was happy to go with a car on RAC platinum plus as i have good experience with this on a much more expensive car with bigger claims, 2 x £7k claims in 4 months and no quibbles from them.

Then a particular dealer offered to go through the LR hoops to put a warranty on (at my expense) and i thought it a good idea, maybe not so..

What if you buy a car direct from a LR main dealer once its outside the statutory 3 yr warranty? same apply or is it that a different matter? Say a 2018 FFRR..

My one came with approved used warranty, I did claim
Over £6k but to be fair I could have rejected the car as they had not spotted the problem on their 120 point check despite me pointing it out on the test drive.

I then extended for a year but after that went Indy and they said they could look after it for much less than the warranty costs and this has been the case so far.

Mine, and the other two owned by close friend and referenced in my post, were main dealer approved cars, over 3 years old, with the faults manifesting themselves within the first 12 months after purchase. Some should, arguably, have been picked up as part of the approved inspections carried out before sale.

My advice, if you do buy one, would be to get a specialist to inspect with a couple of months warranty remaining in order to get any defects addressed.

I kicked off with JLR who eventually did offer a courtesy vehicle (Corsa sized) which was frankly neither use nor ornament given my Land Rover tows regularly (so declined). Friend wasn’t even able to get that out of them. It is a significant contrast to failures under initial warranty where courtesy vehicles have been provided with less hassle and generally of a decent spec.

Thanks spelling it out, was a fasting day so i blame that..

If its mainly about a courtesy car then i’m not too bothered tbh, its more about their effectiveness/willingness to come good on big repairs should they arise.

The courtesy car might be a side issue if you have other cars available, but for me the one that was off the road longest exists as a workhorse to keep the RR semi-presentable, so ending up pressing that into full action wasn't really ideal.

They did come good on most repairs in the end but in each case it took some considerable work (and time) to get there. Being a repeat customer doesn't seem to help much, neither does trying to escalate to/within JLR.

Tbh, I was surprised as warranty work within the 3 years has been trouble free but the experience with extended warranty was so frustrating that they won't see either of my Landrovers again and will probably only see my RR once more as there's work for them to finish off on that.
