L405 speaker crackle fixed. Drains in sunroof.
Discussion
I am posting as this may help others.
My l405 was making popping and crackling noises from the rear speakers regardless of the stereo being on or not.
I found wet carpet in the rear passenger side.
I pulled off the metal capping around the sunroof and poured soapy water in the drain holes half way along the roof. Sure enough it poured out in the footwell of the car.
If you remove the rubber door seal you can look up in to the roof and I could see that the rubber pipe was connected to the rain hole but it was a little corroded. I touched it and it fell away. Both sided were blocked with rust and muck.
One side cleaned up ok so I rust treated it and put it back together, the other side I drilled out and fitted a barbed airline part modified to fit in the drain hole, I used a die grinder to make it funnelled for the rain… all tested and working so dried out the carpets and cleaned up the connectors on the amp….all fixed.
I suspect many 2013 l 405s with the pan roof will now be doing this so worth checking the drains.
