RR Sport vs Disco Sport - £20k
Discussion
Hi all
I’m looking to purchase either a new SUV, and have roughly £22k to play with. For this money, I can either get:
2016 HSE Lux Disco Sport 55k miles (dealer 3m warranty)
2015 HSE RR Sport 105k miles (private sale)
Although there is a lot more car with the RR, slightly worried about running costs and reliability given the high mileage. Any owners on here that have had both that may be able to help with the decision? Our parking space is also quite tight and so the RR may have to be parked on the road instead.
Head is saying Disco (and wife!) but heart is saying RR.

Assuming they're both 3.0 engines, check for cambelt changes - especially on the older car.
There's plenty of info online about the durability of JLR 6pot diesels. Manifolds, oil dilution, spun cranks etc. It doesn't make for pretty reading so the point made above about warranty is a good one.

The disco sport (freelander 3) would be an ingenium engine(4pot) which have their own issues. There's plenty of info online about the durability of JLR 6pot diesels. Manifolds, oil dilution, spun cranks etc. It doesn't make for pretty reading so the point made above about warranty is a good one.

Since when is 105k high mileage? FGS I’m looking to purchase either a new SUV, and have roughly £22k to play with. For this money, I can either get:

Biggest thing to worry about on the RRS is the 3.0 V6 engine. They have a terrible reputation. Plastic inlet manifolds and the dreaded crank.
Running costs on fuel are easy to calculate. Same for VED and insurance. As for maintenance, I would allow £1kpa on a RRS.
RRS will be better to drive and the interior is much better than the Disco Sport. In the end its your decision. What I would say is you are at the bottom of the price range for RRS of that era. They generally only start at £20k for the V6 and £25 for the 4.4 V8 and I'd rather spend the extra and have the V8. Its the later JLR V8 in those too and that has abiout 300bhp and that is fine in something like that.
