Hi all,

New here 👋🏼

I’m looking to buy a 2020 RR evoque and trying to find best value on the market (black exterior, auto).

Initially wanted to buy direct from JLR dealer but having seen that the warranty is only 12 months I’m considering buying privately.

Does anyone know if the JLR can be extended (if so how much) or have any other tips as this is my first ‘premium’ car purchase?

Thanks in advance :-)

Yes it can be however it is terrible, the question everything, often won't pay out. My advice would be not to bother, purchased a discovery sport from dealer with 24 months extended and then extended a further two years. Had nothing but problems with it and had an awful time getting anything paid via warranty.

Hello,

Don’t ignore independent dealers either.
I bought my Range Rover from Twelve London Road & had an issue in the first year.
They were fantastic & very co-operative.
My car was repaired at a garage local to me.
Most reputable premium car dealers will be similar & their cars are often not below the standard of the main dealer network.

Personally my experience of JLR main dealers is they act like they are doing you a favour by letting you buy from them!

You must have had a very unique experience. What specifically?

None of my JLR vehicles have ever had a issue claiming under warranty, extended or not.

Ditto.

My LR DS is a 2015 model, 50000 miles, two separate uncontested warranty claims regarding the keys and cameras, and I have the JLR extended warranty in place.

Electrics, battery issue, boot struts, sensor within the exhaust and then finally the ingenium engine itself.

Similar faults to which I have experienced over many JLR cars. I had a new engine, block, cylinders the lot; supercharger replacements; sub frames dropped; loom faults tested and found etc.

Nothing has ever been refused though, and I continue to run three modern JLR products. Suprised to hear that any of the issues you had were not covered by warranty.

I actually find dealers incredibly supportive to push warranty fixes given the labour charges they can bill. Works for them, works for me.

I still think that the manufacturers warranty when the car is in the first few years of its life is probably OK Although the dealerships attitude most of the time is appalling.

Once the car reaches 4,5 or 6 years old, the so-called extended warranty is a total waste of space and money.
I have a 6 year old car with a fairly expensive (I thought) extended warranty. Admittedly not a JLR one and I have had a need to put in a couple of claims.
a) They will only speak to the garage, who have to also supply photographic or video evidence of the claim.
b) I have had all my claims rejected almost without reason.
c) The indy garage that I use have admitted that 99% of the claims (for all their customers) they submit are thrown out.
In future save my money, and wait for these issues to arise. Use the warranty money to help pay.

An example of my annoyance is that one of the EPB motors is starting to make a weird noise and the garage says that the housing has developed a crack and it needs replacing. The insurance have said that because it's not actually broken (and probably locked the brakes on, thereby disabling the car), they won't consider the claim. And even then it seems they will not pay for wear and tear! Lose/lose for me....

Note to self: Why has it taken all these years for this information to sink into my little brain?

My experience is that the extended warranty is bad, with JLR seriously suggesting that a Corsa sized vehicle would be an OK substitute whilst they took six months to fix my Defender.

Friend had a major battle when gearbox went under extended warranty and is now facing his wife’s Disco being off the road for ~six months without courtesy car.

They seem to be able to be persuaded to pay out eventually, but won’t provide equivalent vehicle whilst off the road. All three were pre-owned.

JLR point to it being provided with an independent company, even though sold/branded as a LR offering.

In my experience you are better off going to a good independent.
Main dealers *that I have experienced* are liars and crooks.

I think they are more interested in selling new cars.

You're lucky that you got a courtesy car.
Shatstone denied all knowledge of the courtesy car that was agreed when I booked my car in for servicing. Wouldn't even take me to the station.

I use an independent now and have never had any problems. Cheaper too.
