Here we go again on a very old subject.
2016 L405 and the "Battery low" warning came up on the dash.
I plugged in and charged overnight at the two points under the bonnet. C-tek charger now shows fully charged.
Started car this morning and the warning is still there on the screen.
Is it possible that the smaller battery in the boot is at fault or do I need to charge that separately?
I am no electrician and do not have a fault code reader (even if I did I probably wouldn't understand it!!)

Short answer - I'm not sure...

Most dual battery systems have a voltage sensing relay between them, so that when charging, the batteries are connected together and both charge. However, the Range Rover system is fancier and may have additional factors that control the charging of the secondary battery.

There are circuit diagrams and descriptions here, but not sure it helps -

Just had a battery health check carried out by my local independent LR shop.
Main battery is showing only 67% and the stop/start battery is 63%.
Interestingly, there are two stop/start batteries available; a small one and a more expensive larger one. They are not interchangeable; Guess which one I've got!!
Amazing how they managed to get this low a condition without some of the usual tell tale signs of battery failure. Not a peep out of anything until I got the "Low battery" notification. Alternator charge rate is good apparently.
If I take a chance and just replace the main battery, you can bet your life it will break down in the middle of a motorway station or something and I'll still have to get the the stop/start one replaced. If only there was a way of permanently turning off this "feature" I would do it. I always disable it when I get the car started anyway.
I am just going on Ebay to see if I can sell the children to pay for this lot........
Will keep you posted when new batteries are installed, hopefully tomorrow pm.

Just had both batteries replaced, at sensible prices and they charged £15 fitting for each.
Not bad, I thought. I'm sure others will say it could be done for less money but I'm happy so that's all that matters.

I have a LR DS.

A year or so ago I kept getting the low battery warning and so put it on the charger overnight, which worked but only for a day or so. In due course, car went to the local LR indy and he said that it was the auto stop/start battery that was very low, and recommended a complete new battery, which happened. Cost about £300 all in. No problems since.

Batteries are the bane of our lives. No warning then "bang". All sorts of messages on the dash and you are at the mercy of the AA or similar.
Cars!! Who would have them.

It’s a couple of years since I had an L405 but I used to keep the rear systems battery charged and that looked after the front as well (if I recall correctly).

After some delving I found a place that made an adaptor for the CTEK so that you could trickle charge the rear battery via the towbar socket.

I got in to all this because the car sat around unused quite a lot. Sometimes for several weeks. And all sorts of issues cropped up when the systems battery went low.

It’s really not something you want to let happen.
