P38 - intermittent HeVAC screen issue

Evening all,
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction here before I buy a new HeVAC controller and find I have the same issue again.
The display on my HeVAC controls seems to have an intermittent lighting fault, when I got the vehicle off my father in law we knew the display had broken pixels but the backlight didn’t work, figured new bulbs were needed.
One LCD zebra cable upgrade kit and new bulbs later no joy.. come summer the sun occasionally illuminated the screen and showed a successfully working LCD. Hooray! Then further into summer the bulb decided to work.. for about 4 weeks before it decided it has had enough and stopped.
I’ve tried seating the display illumination cable as apparently that can work loose but no sign of that being loose.
Any ideas? I thought I could cope without a working LCD but the allure of knowing how warm/cool I’ve got it set to is too great.
