Currently have a DB11, but the little one is getting older and it's getting a pain to get her in an out.

So looking for a RR to go in rhe spare garage space. Never owned an suv or a LR product so new to all this.

Started off with a budget of 45k and now man maths have taken me to way beyond that

My choices are:

2018 RRSVR - 75k
2017 FFRR 5.0 AB - 58k
2019 FFRR 4.4 AB - 73k

My choices on the FFRR are limited as I have specific colour in mind which makes all the other redundant for me and there's not many about at all.

I dont do many miles at all, mainly short local journeys

Over to the PH knowledgeables to advise/guide me please? All comments welcome and even other choices in the mix.

Please help!

Having driven all 3 and owning a 2015 FFRR 4.4 SDV8 for me you have to have a good reason not to buy the 4.4 SDV8.

Mine makes 30 mpg lifetime average, 36 mpg on a run, it’s torquey, quiet and they are amazing daily transport.

Make sure it gets a long run once in a while to keep everything oily clean & working properly.

The 5.0 is fun. But they are 10 mpg worse off at all times, that mattered to me.

I’m on my 6th FFRR with a new one on order.

The SVR will have a bit more bling than an AB but that’s about it.

As for which engine, drive them and decide which you prefer. Remember, RR’s are about wafting not racing, so once you’ve enjoyed the 5.0 acceleration a couple of times you probably won’t use it much thereafter but suffer the low MPG. I’m another advocate of the 4.4 SDV8 which isn’t far behind the 5.0 in terms of overall pace. The torque from the 4.4 is superb, 700nm if I recall correctly.

Otherwise buy the newest as the refinement and tech (which remains behind the likes of BMW and Merc) improves with every year.

When you buy make sure you get a warranty and be prepared to pay additionally for the LR warranty going forward.

There's no bad choice there as they are all great cars.
I've owned a L405 5.0L Supercharged Autobiography (2013), great long distance cruiser, very comfortable and now own a 2021 SVR which I bought new in May last year.
I love the SVR, nearly as comfortable as the big RR but so much more fun, and if you like a spirited drive from time to time, it is very capable.
I also have an Aston Martin and I know many Aston drivers who also own a SVR.
Another thing to consider is the revised interior and infotainment from 2018 onwards, the infotainment on a 2017 is very dated now, from 2018 onwards the Range Rover and Sport (so SVR included) has the twin touchscreens.
Fuel consumption is very similar for both Supercharged models, I've seen 12L/100 KM (about 23.5 MPG) on a touring trip going easy (with a friend who has a Discovery so a mix of gentle motorway cruising and little touristic roads in the Luberon) but most of the time I would do about 20 MPG.
I have been invited at the launch of the new L460 Range Rover but haven't placed an order as I think it is a very big car and obviously less sporty.
Sadly I don't like the design of the new Sport and no SVR version at the moment so I'm keeping mine for now.

I’ve owned all 3 (albeit the 5.0 and 4.4 were a few years back and hence the earlier model), still have the SVR. The SVR really is a very different car to the other two, quicker, louder and slightly less comfy. It has however my favourite by a big margin, comfy enough, great to drive and genuinely quick. I’’m not finding the running costs much more than the 4.4 either, my 4.4 did 27/28 mpg on a run (I’ve also had a Sport with the same engine and that was similar) the SVR I get 22/23 mpg on a run not a vast difference, maintenance isn’t much more expensive and the SVR is £500 to insure both my 4.4s were £1,000+ (no idea why!).

I'm also on my 6th Range Rover (4 FFRR's and two Sports).

The 2018 SVR press cars were presented in awful colours like orange with carbon bonnet option but in a subtle color the SVR kind of blends in and most people wouldn't know the difference between a SVR and the rest of the Sport model range.
Mine is black on black with no exterior carbon (apart from the carbon bonnet but painted not exposed) and is quite discrete.

There isn’t a bad car there, but personally I find the RRSVR a bit shouty, especially in the exhaust department and (to me at least) they don’t feel as luxurious.

I run a 5.0 (2019) and it’s great. Did the maths and over the mileage I do, the difference in the cost of fuel is negligible and more than offset by the reduced depreciation.

Have had 4.4 for a few extended runs (before buying the 5.0), still a nice place to be and might have been swayed that way if I was doing monster mileages or towing over long distances. The 5.0 is still a great tow car but mpg really suffers with a couple of ton on the back.

I have had two

I had a 4.4 SDV8 but L322 and it is great engine very smooth and had the grunt when needed and MPG was around 28
Then for the last 3 years had L405 5.0L Supercharged Autobiography ( 2015) currently running around 21 MPG
As stated by others it is faster but I like it because it blends in
I had both remapped( DMS) currently running at 605 BHP and tonnes of torque as fast as a SVR
Go for the latest you can get for the better infotainment system
Lastly used a Indy to service it and prepared on average a cost between £750 to £1750 to service it per year

Out of idle curiosity, I checked mine today and over the 4800 miles since last service it’s reporting an average of 21 mpg. Mostly countryside but a few motorways and a bit of towing (~5%). The blending in was a key part of the decision for me too.
