Mini RR L460 review
Discussion
After driving a few hundred miles in my D300 HSE here are my first impressions.
I have owned two L405s from new for nearly nine years both with 3l diesel and enjoyed both vehicles having virtually no problems in 100,000 miles.
The new D300 engine is smoother and seems slightly faster. It has improved massively on the slight lag when setting off from stationary. (I have driven the D350 and it is considerably faster, but I don’t feel the need for speed in this car)
Just about everything about this new car is slightly better than the old model - It is smoother and quieter at all speeds. The interior finish is similar but the seats seem more comfy. The computer is better (but was bound to be) and there are more driver options that now I have meddled with them, will rarely look at again.
There are a number of fairly minor things I do not like:
I hate the pop out handles – more gadgetry to go wrong and I liked the look of the old ones. My car is parked in a secure area during the day and I don’t always lock it so the sticky out handles look bad.
I hate the new screen. I realize car manufacturers are moving in this direction, but at least build it into the dash – it looks like it’s been plonked there as an afterthought forever staring back with finger print smudges all over it. I prefer physical buttons and find it especially annoying that the air vents have to be turned off individually via the screen.
I hate the new gear lever and park button – I know not everybody liked the previous rising knob but I much preferred it.
There is more storage in the central compartment, but they have done away with the useful umbrella holders in the doors and the door storage compartments are about half the size.
The park assist does not work. It would have bumped my car both times the salesman was showing it me (had I not jumped on the break) – so I will not use it again.
To start with I did not like the look of the rear view/lights – but this has already grown on me and I now love the look of the car.
Overall the car is absolutely fantastic and I have fingers crossed it will be as reliable as my other JLR vehicles have been.
