Room to kip in a 90?

Anybody here tried it?
Was thinking a bit of board across the back and then stowing kit in the void underneath.
roof tents the best idea, but not cheap, my e-bay maggiaanola cost about 800 with the roof bars. a new one is 1200!!!!
you can get canvas roof tents from about 500.
can you fold the seat backs down in a 90?
i've slept in the back of an swb sIII with a board over the back, the seats front seats down and another board in the front. the steering wheel gets in the way though..

That's what I've heard of people doing.
I built a platform in our 110 at bulkhead level (pic here). It works, but there is stuff all headroom. The rooftent is far more comfortable and saves having to clear the back out to sleep.
I think it would be very uncomfortable trying to sleep in the back of a 90. We have slept in the back of our 110 - plonk a bit of board across the back with second row seats folded down, cover it in sleeping kit, other kit stowed underneath the board, no probs, but only just long enough for 6' hubby.
Hmmmm....it does look a bit tight now I've looked at some pics (currently searching in earnest for a 90 to buy and it's not something you can really try out!)
Friend of mine reckons he managed it in a lightweight. I think the key phrase he used was "diagonally" but it was tried at Glastonbury so maybe the 'beer' helped!
I'm currently armed with the latest LRO and have indeed been looking at roof tents. Trouble with 'em (price aside) is they do look a bit fragile for proper winter use here -can anyone advise?

Where is "here"?
I wouldn't use a roof tent in the UK in winter unless it was very well sheltered. Even in the summer I've had (normal) tents pretty much ripped to pieces by the wind. I'd be worried about motion sickness as much as anything else
The other thing to bear in mind is winter is that cars (and landies especially) aren't very well insulated. You'd need something like an Eberspacher (?sp) heater, but IMO you'd be better off in a decent tent.

Here is indeed the UK.
As I suspected, roof tents definitely look more Africa than Scotland when it comes down to it.
Was thinking of using the 90 as more of an impromtu shelter as opposed to a camper. I have a couple of well specified tents as is and would prefer to use them, but there have been a few times where I've gone to the middle of nowhere and not been lucky finding a rough campsite.
Out of interst, how did you manage to break so many vehicles mech?

I'm not really sure. The only one that was definitely my fault was the Skoda. I think it's just down to owning older/higher mileage cars and thrashing them from cold Suffice to say, I wouldn't buy a used car off me
There is another way, crossways. This invovles cutting a hole in one of the hardtop side panels and hinging it back on at the top. Then make a flap at the bottom for a base and seal round the rest with a canvas type material. It is rather like a campervans' elevating roof but on its side. This extends the width of the vehicle to 6 foot, but beware using it whilst driving along as your sleeper could lose his feet.
I just bought a TVR S2, which I think you have too, still happy with yours?
