Looking for a new SUV and previously had an XC90 and a Cayenne. I Want to spend up-to about 35k but never considered a RR sport.

Was pretty set on a X5 but have been looking at these and think I will go to the dealer this week. Am thinking of getting an approved used one for the warranty but any tips?

Don’t think my budget will get a facelift car, more likely a 2016 done about 50k

Was looking at the 3.0 v6 diesel HSE . Is that the one to get?

New to the brand so any tips would be useful.

Thanks in advance.

They’re brilliant cars and most of them will be the V6 diesel. You might find the odd 2.0 litre petrol knocking about which they did for a short spell but I don’t think it was popular, although it may be cheaper. I had the engine in a Disco 5 and it was ok but nowhere near as good as the big V6 diesel so personally I’d avoid it.

I don’t know if they snap the cranks like the Discos do; it’s the same engine in a similar car so I guess they do. This isn’t usually covered by the Land Rover extended warranty. Maybe go for the 5.0 V8 if you can afford the fuel?

Personally I’d wait until the new one hits the roads as the prices are strong at the moment and should drop quite a bit. Great cars, though. And with a tasteful spec I think they can avoid the stereotype that goes along with them. The boot is small and the rear isn’t that comfortable, that might be worth noting, but the front is top notch. Try and get an upgraded stereo as the standard Meridian is a bit st. JLR brake discs are appallingly bad so make sure both sides of the discs are clean and not corroded. The inboard side often doesn’t get good pad contact and corrodes horribly.

Thanks Crumpet, that’s a good start. It will be the v6 diesel for me.
