I have never owned or even driven one, but I am curious as to the specific function of what appears to be a kind of lockable metal suitcase. I have never noticed any equivalent on any other SUV. Is this for some kind of equipment?..I would have thought that the limited capacity would not add anything very useful to luggage space.

It's a 24l lockable storage solution for dirty or wet gear apparently.

In reality it's just part of the "barbie and ken go to the beach" lifestyle styling effort.

We have some very challenging and difficult terrain in our supermarket parking lots. This seems like a hugely useful , practical and safe solution.

Explorer Pack but street tires?

Well you wouldn’t want to put it in a £3,000 suitcase, it’d get dirty!

Land Rover need to market magnetic mud decals so you can make your LR look muddy, but easily whip them off for lunch along the Kings Road.

Is this the most cringeworthy (factory) accessory or is there something out there even worse?

Can't imagine they improve rear visibility via the door mirrors. Plus I imagine they whistle like a bd at motorway speeds.

From the owners group.

Some fill it with recovery gear etc, as they do actually go off road.
Others have filled it with gin, whisky and other lovely stuff so when they camping they can open it and have a nice drink.

I like the explorer pack on them so I would have it on my future 110.

A guy up the lane has a defender with this strapped to the side. But has one of first V8 defender, a Gts3 and a 2 million “pad” , a house in Switzerland a house in Monaco and a flat in Chelsea. So I guess a “welly” storage box ain’t going to worry too much !
