We've just bought a 2015 RRS that has come with a detachable tow bar. Handy extra as we do regularly tow so keen to use. It was fitted in the pics but 'detached' for collection.

Wondered if it's a liability thing?

Anyway it's a sticker staying Westfalia but isn't like one I can find and there are no instructions in the car.

It isn't the curved one with a key lock on but a straight ar that slides into a box section and a pin slides through with a lynch pin either side to hold it in. There is also a 16 nut on the right hand side that when done tightly simply pushes into the side of the detachable part. There is no locating hole for this bolt.

Anyone here have one, by pushing the tow bar in until in the correct place for locating pin to push through is that it? I've the pin in, lynch pins in and tightened the 16mm as tight as possible.

Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

I have a 2009 Discovery 3, which I understand has the same fitting as the RRS. My understanding is the detachable tow bars are removed because as well as getting nicked, there can be corrosion issues if left.

I have changed mine for a fixed Witter tow bar that uses a similar mechanism to fit the receptacle, but has a bolt that locks the pin in place, as well as two hefty bars that brace it to the chassis members either side.

I had the original detachable tow bar, and it dethatched while I was towing a boat, as I turned left when the lights went green.

I'm not sure if the Westfalia have a better mechanism, but I would trust a fixed tow bar a lot more.
