Hi All

Posting for a friend who isn't on here.

He has 2015 RR Evoque that has suffered a catastrophic gearbox failure.

The gearbox is the ZF9 which he's deduced is a problem gearbox but Land Rover don't want to know.

It seems that some manufacturers such as Chrysler and Jeep recognised the problem and have fixed this but no such luck with LR.

Has anyone had a similar issue to this and got somewhere with it?

The car is out of warranty and LR wanted 7k plus labour so the car is with a specialist who want 5k all in.

Specialist is saying the box is wrecked and they can't recondition so they're bringing in a new box from Germany.

Any advice appreciated.

What sort of specialist? A LR specialist or a gearbox specialist?

ZF have a network of approved gearbox rebuilders so it would be worth using one of those if they haven't already.

Thanks for the quick response.

Gearbox specialist and they are working directly with ZF. ZF have said they have to do a brand new gearbox because the core drum is damaged which they do not provide spare parts for to recondition. So ZF are now sending over a new gearbox from Germany 2-3 weeks

5K for a brand new gearbox including the fitting sounds OK to me.

What does the owner want, exactly?

I should have clarified

My question was more along the lines of anyone having a similar experience and if LR has contributed any goodwill.

At 7 years old and 4 years out of warranty I think your pal is unfortunately out of luck

^ This.

The other option is to source a second hand box if he wants to cut some cost out of it.
