Hello All,

Quick question about the later facelift Sports...

I had a 59-plate RRS a few years ago with the 3.0 diesel unit, and find myself wanting another one for Hacking duties...

This time however, I would like to get a slightly newer car with the uprated 3.0 diesel engine - I understand these MY11 -> cars are badged as the SDV6 as opposed to TDV6 as my 59-plates was....

I am aware that for the very last cars of this shape the wonderful ZF8 Auto was fitted. My question is this:

Did the SDV6 engine come a model year BEFORE the ZF8? or to put it another way - does the MY12 change to rotary gear-selector instead of the lever evidence the ZF8 box being fitted and NOT the SDV6 badge on the back?

I am slightly confused, as I can see SDV6 MY 12 cars on 61-plates with the gear level and the rotary knob.

Hope that makes sense, and that one of you kind chaps can put me straight....

Nick.

The rotary selector signifies the 8spd box, the lever is for the 6spd.

As for the SDV6 badge... Pass...

The sdv6 basing is something that’s been talked at great length on the disco forums as well.

The gist roughly… is this.
Tdv6 is 245bhp and 6 speed auto box.
At some point in late 2010/early 2011 they changed the badge to sdv6. Still with 245bhp engine and 6 speed gearbox.

Around late 2011/early 2012 they got the 255 bhp engine and the 8 speed.
This is also badged as sdv6.

So tdv6 with lever is 6 speed and 245.
Plus sdv6 with lever is 6 speed and 245.
Sdv6 with dial is 8 speed and 255.

There’s a overlap with the badge being applied to the lower power engine. So no reason that anyone can figure out.

Thanks chaps - so pretty much as I thought - a bit confusing, but the bottom line is that I want a knob, not a lever...

That said, many non-knob cars are saying they have the 259PS engine...

If you want a genuine 255bhp example then yes you are seeking a knob ( sorry hehe )

The 8 speed is stronger than the 6 speed but will at this age really want the box serviced.

It might be more reliable but IIRC the 6spd is actually stronger (hence why they retained the 6spd in the RRSport for the Supercharged cars).

Either way, the 8spd is the preferred option with the SDV6.
