L322 whining noise in narrow rev-band
Discussion
Hi folks, looking for some suggestions from the hive mind as to what could be causing a whining noise that's just developed on my FFRR.
It's an 08-plate TDV8 with 163k on the clock BTW.
This whining noise only appears between 1500 and 2000 rpm when in the lower gears and is more pronounced under acceleration, goes quieter or disappears under deceleration. It doesn't happen in the same rev band in top gear at all, or when stationary.
To my untrained ear it seems to be coming from the top of the engine, possibly nearer the back of the engine than the front.
I'll end up taking it back to the garage, but I think it may be hard to diagnose on a ramp.
