LR Defender prices
Discussion
Hello !
Just for discussion - an observation.....
On initial launch, for interest, I spec'd a basic 90 for around £45k (steelies, cloth, white etc. etc.). Just started to do the same and before I started configuring, price starts around £56k - 24% increase.....
Is there an official story behind this, or just supply/demand ?
Would love a 90 at some point.

I’ve ordered a 110 X Dynamic S with £6k of extras. Between September and November it went up by £4k. They then reduced the models available to streamline production. Another factor is they dropped the cheaper 4 cyl engine so only 6 Cyl or V8 available. My car is £62k and an identical car 9 months old with 7k miles is at a main dealer for £86k at the moment.
The Hardtop still starts at under £46k but if you go to the Land Rover website there is a section on availability. Pretty much all 3.0L diesel Defenders are on 9-12 months. The 2.0L petrols not available and the Hardtops extend in excess of 12 months. The crazy used prices are because there is precious little nearly new stock so it’s down to supply and demand. Franchised dealers cannot sell new vehicles for more than list price but they can buy used ones and set their own prices, hence the huge additional cost if you don’t want to wait a year.

Supply and demand coupled with chips shortage means the range and various options have been trimmed.
The matrix headlights are on a very long waiting list if you must have the car with them.
I believe it’s 2023 before your car with them will be slotted and built.
Some cars don’t have the full digital dash but a hybrid of a mini digital screen and analogue dials.
The D200 may have been dropped so it’s D250 minimum now.

SE spec - I quite like it actually as not yet convinced by the whole 'screen with a picture of dials on it' and prefer actual dials. The LR version of this looks pretty cool. I avoided matrix lights on my X-Dynamic order too - for that reason (and the magic rear view mirror thing which is basically not available either).Mark V GTD said:

Pictures for thread of ours.
The SE I test drove when the dealers were doing the “meet defender” stuff had the clear light rear mirror.
I wouldn’t want one without it after doing 110 miles with that car.
Still, affording one is a long way away so I don’t have to worry.
Although I do want a D300 HSE with the matrix lights and locking back diff so could be interesting getting one of them.

Over a year mate. So looking at well in to 2023.
Thanks. Nearly ordered one in 2020 but bought a pickup instead, obviously wish I’d of gone through with it now. Just noticed LR are now doing a 250hp in the 90 which got me interested again. Bit pricey though… spec’d it to £50k+vat with not going too excessive on toys!Gassing Station | Land Rover | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
