I currently live in London (with underground parking at night), and had been looking at purchasing a 2018/2019 Range Rover Vogue.

I am aware of the issues with cars being stolen, but the insurance quotes are colossal.

Does anyone have recommendation of sensible insurers or is that the cost of having a range rover in London.

For scale - its circa 3x my Porsche which is of higher value.

I thought the facelift generation were harder to nick?

I am with Churchill on a 2013 Vogue SE SDV8, require a tracker and I'm just shy of 4 figures on an unsecured driveway overnight, right on the south coast.

London is obviously going to be more but 3x your porsche doesn't tell us much - what's the figure? I don't think it's going to be easy to insure a L405 FFRR for under 6-700 a year no matter who you are.

2019 RR vogue. Value circa £85k. Insurance is from £3k upwards.

Insurance for other cars of similar value based on my circumstances is £800 (much higher than before) fully clean license with 10 years NCD.

I wonder if its purely down to living in London - although the car is in a locked garage at night.

I pay circa £1500 for a 68 plate Vogue parked on the street in central London through the NFU. I don't pay a whole lot less for a 19 plate Cooper S!

Previous insurer of my SVR declined to renew the cover due to theft risk, however Admiral quoted only £490. Being a middle aged chartered accountant living in a small Yorkshire village probably helps though.

I was quoted over £1000 (45 year old, Solihull parked in driveway) for an 2018 FFRR vogue SE. Current BMW X5 M50d less than £500!
The money was not the main factor why I didn’t buy one. More the fact that insurance company are giving a very strong hint that it will get stolen. I don’t want to go through that again.

I was just looking to buy, I've now diverted to a Discovery for the 7 seats. I got some quotes, cheapest was £680, for a 2017 AB 4.4. This was inflated by £200 as my wife, a named driver had recently made a claim. (Again !). So my underlying quote was £480, this was just the lowest quote on Money supermarket. I'm 47, Full NBC, Staffordshire, driveway overnight was the quote, I forgot to see if it came down if garaged, which I could do. I also pay £550 for an M4 for context.

Land Rover has known for years that they have a security problem, but they don't appear to be addressing it.

When mine was one of the early keyless thefts, a plummy chap from Land Rover called me to emphasise just how much of a problem they didn't have. Nothing at all. Not even a hint of a problem. Yours was an isolated incident Sir. The others that are being stolen are all isolated incidents and nothing to do with a security problem that we don't have.

That must have been 8-10 years ago.

I think they are stolen because of how desirable they are and how the parts are easily interchangeable. Have a look on auto trader etc and see how many old Range Rovers there are with face-lifted body kits etc.
Thieves will exploit a weakness in any security system if it’s something they want.
All manufacturers could do more but it won’t stop the thieves they’ll just mug you for your keys inside or outside your house if they want it.
Lexus have a big problem with cars been stolen with the keyless entry system but you don’t hear about it so much because they’re are not so many of them on the road.
