Not an expression of frustration about Defenders, I mean buying and selling Defenders.

I’ve currently got a D300 on order but having seen the prices they’re selling for with low or delivery miles I’m tempted to order another.

Of course, this could all backfire, but a list price of £70k on an HSE is selling for £80k+. Plenty of owners have run a Defender for a year and sold it for more than they paid and this trend doesn’t look to be reversing just yet.

Anyone else done the same? I always miss the boat for these things but given lead times of 12 months continuing (and one year old cars selling for a premium) it seems almost sensible to always have a car on order.

We currently have an Oct 2020 Defender HSE ( with extras) best WBAC price I had was 74K - 12K more than I paid. In saying that my LandRover Dealer assured me I would get more on a trade-in - current price offered from WBAC is @72.5K

I would have jumped at the trade-in but unfortunately there's hee-haw available that fits our needs - large boot space to fit 93KG St Bernard - the likes of FFRR or RRS just don't really cut it and D5 is rubbish compared to D4 space - so we've just stuck with what we have for now

Yep - I ordered a HSE D250 last week for the same reason. Got a discount of £2k off and delivery late this year. As things stand it seems that some profit will be likely if I sell it within weeks/months - even if its just £2k by selling it at list. Fingers crossed!
Interesting. Not just me then. I was also figuring it could be an easy couple of grand profit but I may need to change my spec as it’s to my taste (Santorini Black with the full tan Windsor interior)! biggrin

I ordered the Defender because we weren’t sure my wife would like the F-Pace SVR we’ve just taken delivery of. As it happens she loves it so the Defender will probably be surplus to requirements - unless there’s money to be made on the SVR.

I might put an order in on a lower spec model as well, Drive the Deal are showing a discount of 2.5k.

That’s mad isn’t it. To think I went for a D5 over a Defender! frown Got the bulk of my deposit back from the PCP but obviously lost all the monthlies.

I've had mad dreams about chopping it in for a Defender V8 but I'd still have to wait an age - anyways the wife loves the Defender and will resist strenuously any notions of getting something else, even if that something else was readily available

I suppose you might make a quick buck if you can get one delivered fast enough, but clearly it's not sustainable for WBAC etc to buy them at a price significantly higher than private buyers are sourcing them for from the dealer network with only a relatively short build time. The window will disappear very quickly, one way or another (Man OTR price on the up, or WBAC values will go down).

From experience, they and their market analysis partners like GAP et al, rarely miss a trick for very long.

Nor does the non-franchise dealer network. If this curious model was sustainable, the latter would have been hoovering up dealer allocations for months to sell at a profit, which would leave franchises with nothing on their forecourts and just acting like wholesalers.

Yeah there’s definitely a risk of losing if things take too long. Apparently things are speeding up a bit with builds so that could affect the used prices fairly soon. I know there were clauses in sales to stop traders buying and flipping, so I believe that route is closed off.

I’m sticking with just the one I have on order, it’s not out of the question that I’ll keep it. We’ll see.

Hey all,

I have deposit down on a defender HSE 110 X-Dynamic, 7 seater, black, etc.

We spoke about discounts, nothing nailed down as loads wanting them. If 2k is possible I will push them, was planning to push anyway. I think with the higher spec that could be possible.

Drive the deal is at £2850, but other sites aren’t even listing defenders.

Thoughts? Also seems that production has ramped up.
