Must have been covered a million times, but who are people using to cover there P38 Range Rovers?

My Warranty is set to expire soon and although in 12 months motoring I have only had 1 minor fault with the car, I prefer to be protected?

Any good companies to use. Incidently I have a 4.0ltr.

You will have a lot of trouble finding anyone who covers V8s, especially Range Rovers.

Most of them are crap - the best one, recommended by 'Honest John' in the Torygraph was www.warrantyDirect.co.uk.

I bought a monthly policy from these guys on my '96 4.6HSE and it was a complete waste of time. I had a radiator fail, which wasn't covered after a lot of wrangling (wear and tear). Then I had to have the valley, rocker and sump gaskets replaced and that wasn't covered either (wear and tear). They now don't cover cars over 4l (so you should be OK)!!!

The butt of it is that they get out of replacing most things by claiming 'wear and tear' and you end up paying anyways. When they do cover it, they only cover a %age of the parts cost, and the franchise dealers are always shite and do a shoddy job because they are paid a pittance hourly rate on warranty claims - some won't even take the work. I asked them how else does a radiator fail if it isn't from rust and they said "It might split"

My advice to you would be to find a damn good honest independent (I use an excellent one in Amersham following a recommendation from PH) and you will spend a lot less money than you think, and certainly less than you would on a warranty.

Seconded. Get it serviced very regularly and they will spot the stuff in good time. Prevention is better than cure and all that.

The after market warranties for LR I have found to be pants and expensive.

Hear, hear!

I can strongly recommend Rogers of Bedford, too, who have always looked after us really well, and we've just bought our third car from them.

Thanks guys, I am tending to agree with you all. The warranty companies only pay £40/hr for labour, the specialist I go to is £50+VAT so I'll end up paying in the end like you say.

I'll risk it and put the £900 saved from not buying the warranty into the Rangie slush fund.
