After 6 months finally my new Disco
Discussion
So having ordered in June finally picked up my new Disco yday! It's a D300 SE in Portofino blue extras include 22 inch diamond cut alloys, HUD, open sun roof, side steps (havent been fitted as on back order), two tone interior, heated steering. Looks v nice in the flesh so happy with how it turned out. Seems the backlog is even worse now with 9-12 months wait and some options like the surround camera system and HUD unavailable due to the continuing chip shortage. Taking it away over Xmas so will have a good chance to shake it down. Some pics to follow

Snap! Nice colour - not sure if it’s the same across the board but it’s very, very soft paint. Maybe some kind of protection for it?
Mine’s going this week, it’s been a nightmare, hopefully you’ve got a good one there! They’re the best family car out there but bugger me they’re badly made.

Love that colour combo. I was going to order portofino blue but decided it probably wouldn’t mix well with the overgrown hedges where live.
You’ve done well to only have a 6 month wait. I’m 8 months and counting!
So you ordered in April? seems I've been lucky to get within 6 months then...normal lead times on these are 3 months so things are properly backed up, not sure if the fact the Disco and Defender are made In Slovakia is also a factor. Car looks stunning - congratulations! Must say that I do like the Portofino Blue. My FFRR is Balmoral Blue - a relatively rare colour which looks lovely when clean, but in my view, doesn't quite have the impact of the Portofino Blue.
I do think the Discovery design is ageing very nicely. I even find myself liking the rear more than I used to - it's distinctive and works very well, I think.

Well, nothing that’s left me stranded, so that’s one good thing! It’s been back about ten times for warranty work:
- Air con compressor replacing
- Front brakes warped causing judder
- Loose heat shields rattling
- Cooling fan stuck on at all times
- Tailgate misalignment x2
- Remote central locking sensor failed
- USB sockets failed
- Vibration at 75mph (never fixed as they blamed me)
- Metal filings in engine oil
- Remote climate stopped working for about six months
- Entertainment system would frequently freeze
- CarPlay is a complete joke. Disconnects every five mins. Finally seems to be fixed!
There’s other stuff that I’ve forgotten probably. So nothing major really, just really annoying small faults that all add up to a disappointing experience. Hopefully Pivi Pro is more reliable that the joke that was InControl.
I think you’ll probably be fine as LRs tend to be more reliable as they get further into the life cycle. But your tailgate will end up rubbing and misaligned, that comes as standard!
Enjoy the car, though. Despite me slagging them off they’re actually very good when they work - although not as good as a D4!
Ah, it's turned up at last! D300 was def. the right choice. I've had plenty of time in the wife's now and it's an absolutely superb engine. Great upgrade on the old V6 from 2020. We had side-steps fitted as well, took 3 mths for them to turn up! Not looking so clean now. How's the 570 going, still got it? Mine's up for sale at the mo.

FWIW - If this is in relation to the pre-heater, then that will only come on below 5c.

And a quarter tank of diesel, if I recall correctly from my D4? But this was for the remote start via the app, where the whole car turns on rather than the FBH. Basically refused to work throughout the whole of last winter so had to resort to deicing the windows by hand - the horror! M
Land Rover had it for a week to try and get it working (had a very nice P400 RRS on loan) and eventually it went to their software people who still couldn’t fix it. Then a few months later it just started working again.
The problem I found with the service department was the standard reply would be ‘oh, it’s a software fault, there’s an update for that’. So you’d take the day off to leave it with LR for them to update the software then receive it back with exactly the same fault. Then they’d take it back again a month later and replace the broken parts. That gets tedious, because they have to go through a set procedure it seems and you know full well it won’t work.

Yeah I'm liking the engine so far but havent taken it for a proper drive yet but have long trip to Ireland planned over Xmas so that'll be a good way to run it in properly...and it actually sounds quite good when you give it a prod too! Think the cabin ambiance and ride quality is spot on better than my outgoing Q7 for sure. Pivi Pro v slick I like having things like Waze and Spotify on the big screen. Apparently car play is accessible wirelessly in the latest models but I still seem to have to plug my phone in for it to work? Yep still have the 570S no plans to change it for the time being, saw you'd put yours up for sale alright (over on the Mclaren threads), you got anything in mind as a replacement?

Yup! I was told three months back when I ordered it. Hoping for early new year, but I’m not banking on it given they’ve not yet issued me with a new build date after it was ‘unslotted’

Pivi Pro is great once you get used to it, very clever system. Have you seen the camera view underneath the car? Shortlist is either a 720S, 458 or Huracan. 570 is such a great car though, tempted to keep it for another summer. Haven't seen the underneath view yet guess that's mainly for offroading ? I have a half day Landrover experience to do in the new yr so that'll be fun. Yeah 570s ticks alot of boxes alright...a 720S appeals to me alot however I could be tempted back to Aston Martin a Vanquish S especially...I'm in no rush anyway will enjoy the new Disco for now! Nearly 9000 miles in with my D300 HSE since picking it up back in March, and it's beaten all my expectations, and then some! The engine never ceases to amaze me. How the MHEV manages to get such a large car going with complete ease is beyond me. It hustles along in a way that seems to defy physics. If ever there was an engine that suited this car, the D300 is it, it makes the old SDV6 engine found in the pre facelift cars feel utterly archaic.
Enjoy yours OP.
p.s. Crumpet on another Facelift D5 thread, moaning that his has been crap, even though his is a pre facelift car.

Yes, I’ve probably made my point now and now it’s gone I don’t miss it at all. But, as I say, LRs tend to improve in their life cycles, you don’t have to suffer the old entertainment system (Pivi Pro is very nice, I have it in my new one) and the D300 is brilliant. So hopefully the OP will get to enjoy it as LR intended - I’ve always said its an excellent car. (I still stand by my claims of the D5 being badly made, they can’t change that with a facelift.)
So car nicely run in now just hit 1k miles after Xmas trip to Ireland.
Some thoughts on the car and also compared to my prev Q7...it's extremely comfortable and ideal for long motorway trips I managed 225 miles on one stint without stopping which is a testament to that. The seating position with captains armrest and outward visibility are excellent. As mentioned earlier the D300 engine is v well suited to the car, plenty of torque and shove when you need it and yet can hit low 40's mpg on a decent run, nice sound too.
Pivi Pro really slick system well ahead of anything I've used previously however that same utility didn't translate so well to the digital dash. It's a bit cumbersome to configure and lacks the more intuitive nature of the older Virtual Cockpit in the Audi.
Boot space excellent bigger than my previous Q7 however I think the middle row of seats seem slightly tighter especially with bulky child seats fitted.
The matrix LED lights are wondrous not new tech obviously but first time I've had them in a car.
Overall build quality prob not as good as the Audi and some of the materials do feel a bit cheap even though it's the SE...floormats being an example. First electrical gremlin the tilting switch at the bottom of the rear seats doesn't seem to be working even though the top switches are so needs looking at when it goes back to have the sidesteps fitted.
In summary I'm pretty happy...as a thing to drive and cruise long distance in it comfortably surpasses the Q7, in other areas like overall build, materials and digital dash the Audi was better.
Next road trip is Switzerland in Feb (covid permitting!) which will be almost double the Xmas mileage so a bigger test for the car...it'll certainly be at home in the mountains tho!

Did you tick the £option? Your SE comes with standard LED not Matrix unless you pay for it, Matrix is free/standard on the HSE. They are incredible though, the way the matrix adaptive beam moves and shapes on road/traffic/light conditions is amazing, I was worried about blinding other users but so far it's instant response and makes driving at night a pleasure. Another one where the luxury mats are a paid for option on the SE, but standard on the HSE. They are very plush and so far very hard wearing.RSbandit said:

Second row switches (top and tilt) are linked to the child lock, so if they aren't working check the child lock button is disabled. Also the recline is limited and linked to the runner position, so it may be at the maximum setting.Edited by kmpowell on Thursday 30th December 11:02

Thanks KM I had the childlock activated so will see if those switches work when it's turned off! Edited by kmpowell on Thursday 30th December 11:02
Yeah I ticked the box for the matrix LED lights but didn't go for the more plush floor mats...should have in hindsight!
