The 3yr warranty on our 2018 D5 HSE Lux expires next month. LR are quoting ~£1k/pa including breakdown cover for the extended warranty.

I'm keen to hear what others have done? Are there any alternative warranties that are comparable/better?

A friend recently had a total loss engine failure on a MY'16 RRS which is focusing my attention on warranties!

I have a 2015 LR DS HSE Lux. Got it in 2016 from a main dealer: it was their demo/loan car. Came with the usual LR warranty which I have continued with since. Paid £1037 at last renewal. Now at year 6 and 45000 miles.

I would always take a main dealer warranty based on past experience with Jaguar and their warranty. Peace of mind over price.

The other day the gearbox fault indicator came on (yellow, not red). I have had the car on a garage's code reader since and the message I have got is that a replacement gearbox and temperature module is required OR it's a one-off glitch. So, I've been told to continue to drive the car and see what happens next, if anything. So far, it's not been a problem. If the warning reoccurs I'd expect the issue to be fixed under warranty. Other LR DS forums indicate that this warning is not unknown, sometimes for real, sometimes a glitch.

It’s a gamble at the end of the day, however given LR’s reliability record it’s probably safer to go for it! To add another horror story tot he mix, I bought a second hand 40k mile 2017 D5 a couple of years ago, however it suffered a total engine failure while being driven delivered to me! Must be mad to have ordered a new one…

I didn’t go for the extended warranty on my xc90 when it came up last year…. So far it’s cost me £4500 in repairs all of which would have been covered by a warranty… in its first year (when it was covered by a warranty) it didn’t put a foot wrong
