Defender Delivery Delay
Discussion
Hi All!
Just wanted to put this latest delivery date news past you.
I ordered a new Defender 90 Commercial last week and have just been updated that delivery will be up to 12 months. They are blaming the obvious and the lack of semi conductors.
Anyone else heard this yet and other than buying one from a forecourt (some are £15,000 above list!) is that it!?
Sorry, if this has already been mentioned, I had a quick trawl.
I’m keeping the defender on order and in the meantime looking at a Porsche Panamera E Hybrid, not bad on BIK, considering the beast you’re getting!

Unfortunately yes, all OEMs are in the same boat on this one, hence used car prices being through the roof!
You could cancel it & order an uber high spec one... Most OEMs are prioritising those as they are most profitable. Commercial specs will probably by bottom priority as so little on them & smaller margins. Sorry
If it makes you feeling any better, I'm in the same boat having ordered in March!! *Non JLR though.

Hi,
Yes. Same here.
I ordered 4 weeks ago and deposited.
No delivery date from the dealer yet. I ordered commercial hard top with amongst others the interactive dash. That’s already been deleted from the options available on the hard tops.
My mate is in touch with another dealer about a new order and has been told no commercials for 12 months so that they can focus on the more profitable non commercial models.
I’m not sure whether to cancel yet but the prices will only go up and I’m in no rush.
Wouldn’t trust any of the dealers/salesmen at all though.
It is what it is i suppose.

Thanks AndeH,
So they knew about the delays in March!?
I have a new Range Rover Sport P400 e on order too and have been quoted December delivery, the dealers did say, it might be a bit later due to COVID etc, fine, but now I’ve paid my deposit, I suppose I just have to keep my fingers crossed and wait.
Your point about the factory priortising higher spec orders makes sense, so surely the Sport won’t be too long.
Oh well, better get earning!
Cheers!

I've been reading multiple posts on these delays so assume this is commonplace.
I've also read that JLR are calling customers explaining that the virtual cockpit is now unavailable and analogue dials are the only option available for the next 12 months. Not sure how relevant that is on a commercial 90

I wouldn't necessarily hold your breath on the Sport being manufactured any quicker if I were you.
I have a £128,000. 5.0 Supercharged LWB Range Rover Autobiography on order which was placed back in April. The dealer initially said July delivery (which has obviously gone) and I still don't have a firm delivery date from the factory yet!!
However, with all that said, I think the estimate you've been given of December is still quite realistic, so fingers crossed

Was hoping to order a 90 commercial over the next few weeks and quoted Q1 by one dealer and up to 12 months by the other.
I was quoted Q1 initially by Land Rover which then when I asked again moved to ‘up to 12 months’. For other reasons I’ve decided no more Land Rovers and have ordered an F-Pace SVR which they’re optimistically saying December. Or August next year. Don’t know which!Mulsanne-Speed said:

I wish I hadn’t read your reply! I won’t tell my wife yet - grumpy wives aren’t as much fun!
Oh well, back to my beer!
Cheers all!
The Range Rover Sport's may be different Robbo, you might be OK.
I think you can be slightly reassured if you have been given a build slot - I still haven't got one, which means I'm extremely vulnerable.
Have you been given a build slot yet?
If you're not sure, ask the dealer to check and confirm.
Hope it comes off for you.

Ok, I’ve just put the phone down from Vertu motors. (Was Farnell, Bradford Land Rover)
They tell me the RR Sport might be up to 9 months!
They explained that cars that don’t have too many options will be built first as the stock of various options dictates.
Glad I’m a tight Yorkshireman, I only added a couple of extras on!
Let’s see!

Mrs 111S collects her new Evoque later today. It’s only coming with one key and a key blade because of the semi-comductor issues. The second key fob to be provided at some future date.
I was initially suspicious until others posted similar elsewhere. I’d much prefer this than an unknown delay.

I just took delivery of a RR Vogue, I was lucky as my options list was short but my dealer said that the 360 cameras I specified are no longer available to order. As someone else said it was delivered with one key and a spare blade due to shortages, if you want the run out model L405 now you may be quoted 6 months+ (assuming they bother to build them with the new model on the horizon). Strange times for the new car market.
