A warning to those people with Land Rovers & Range Rovers who are covered by Churchill, Privilege and other insurers using the same underwriters:

They consider Land Rovers a theft risk and therefore have put a restriction on some policies that mean the vehicle is NOT covered for theft unless an approved tracker is fitted.

If you call them to arrange the policy, they will tell you this restriction. If you renew / setup your policy online, it IS mentioned but in my opinion, is it buried in quotation information! You have to look quite carefully to find our if such a restriction is listed under the endorsements section.

Fortunately, I've spotted it BEFORE taking out policies but I imagine some people will have missed it and will have no theft cover on their expensive car!

Admiral do not seem to require a tracker and the cost of the tracker subscription (£100+ pa) means it's unlikely to be worth the marginally cheaper policy from Churchill / Privilege.

Apologies if this has already been discussed.

when i bought my L405 i had to have a tacker fitted - a few years down the line as the cars 'value' decreased they dropped the demand for a tracker

each insurer has their own rules

The tracker is a fairly useful service to keep up.
I’m not sure why anyone would want to let it lapse for the sake of a tank of fuel subscription cost.

no point paying for something you do not need - and my subscription was way more than a tank of fuel

Going through quotation with Churchill today and this restriction was applied to a 2013 L405. Must have a S5 or S7 tracker enabled.

If you don’t need to know where your car is, sure.

Thanks for the heads up, I checked my policy taken out in October last year and there’s no endorsement requiring a tracker so I must have timed it well. I’m guessing they won’t be too keen to retain my custom come renewal time!
