Hey guys - I own a 2008 Defender 90 which has around 99k miles on it. Overall it’s been great for last 6 months I have owned it until 2 weeks ago. The front passenger side wheel baring collapsed on the M4. I managed to limp it to a service station where the AA took over 12 hours to recover (another story for another time). Anyhow recovered back home and to my local garage. They replace the baring and I ask him to replace all 4 wheels to make sure and get it done. All fine so far and I get the car back yesterday….

I jump into it again today and drive 30 miles down the A3 and bang same problem….. screeching, knocking, no braking without pumping the brake and I manage to get to a stop in a lay-by. Smoke and heat coming off the wheel and another call to the AA (basically same as happened last time!!)

AA man arrives and confirms baring collapsed and is amazed it’s happened again….. is this due to poor fitting / error by a mechanic or a bigger fundamental issue in my car etc? I have no clue about cars but bit of a coincidence it’s same issue, same wheel.

Any help advice etc ?

I guess they are tapered bearings and if they failed that quickly they have been fitted wrong. Too tight.

The AA guy said same thing. I’m just thinking why this one specifically when he replaced all 4 wheel bearings. Maybe I’m reading to much into it and was just poor mechanical work that has caused it….. but same wheel same situation
