New Defender 90 continues the tradition...

New Defender 90 collected end of March, 515 miles later back with dealer as leakier than the Tory Cabinet.
At a guess I would say about 4 gallons of water trapped under the floor with associated dead electronics. Has been with dealer for the last 3 weeks and as far as I know they still have not identified the source (beyond 'rain')
On searching the internet I discovered there is a class action in the US as there seems to be a major issue with water ingress on the new Discovery.
Have not seen this mentioned here before so thought worth a thread to see if any others suffering the same issue.

There is a Service Action (N543) to replace the B-Pillar finisher due to potential water ingress.
Affected VIN range 024315 - 045738.

Why doesn't this surprise me.
I absolutely love classic LR products and some of the moderns should be really good too but the build quality is just shocking. It really annoys me about how JLR repay their brand following with total complacency. My brother has bought a new Discovery/FFRR every two years for about 25 years and he's not had one that hasn't been problematic in some way

Its 2021 and I had truly hoped that Land Rover would finally build something that could keep water out rather than letting it in. What an absolute joke. I'm a life long LR fan, but this sort of design defect is simply unbelievable. I was in an Uber the other day that had done 220k. It was the Lexus SUV and funnily enough, it didn't leak!!
I hope you get it sorted. The 86 ECUs on that new Defender won't be much use if the car is leaking like a sieve!
Surprised as I was very impressed with the build quality of the Defender 90 I test drove the other day.
As for "continues the tradition...", problems with new cars is not unique to Land Rover. Although Land Rover buyers do tend to shout about it more than others. I've had problems with just about every brand I've owned - the worst being my first car, a VW Polo. Even now, brands like VW and Audi have a reputation for reliability that I'm not convinced they deserve.
I guess the key aspect it how a dealer fixes any problem, perhaps that it what upsets LR owners more - the expectation of good service not being delivered.

To be fair to JLR they have dealt with this very well, contacted the dealer on the Wednesday and the car was collected and a replacement delivered on the Thursday. Replacement is an RR Sport which I didn't take to immediately but would consider the build quality of both cars to be similar i.e. very high.
The 'Continues the tradition' specifically referenced leaky 90's and was more of a 'if you don't laugh then you'll cry' kinda comment as this was the first new car I've bought in 17 years, usually favouring classics or oddities.

Sorry Paintman - should have updated this.Quoted the reference and was immediately told 'not relevant' - eventually in early July I got a call saying JLR had requested the dealer put it back in the workshop, Next day got a call saying leak identified so this makes me think that either there is another known fault or the original design fault was not fixed by the original bulletin..
That was 6 weeks ago and still with the dealer - 14 weeks and counting.
Are you within time (when this issue was first reported) to reject the car? Not trying to be dramatic, but if there was that much water slushing around, with all the electronics the car has, I would definitely be concerned about longevity and the storing up of problems for the future.
Whenever a thread about LR reliability or build quality pops up I'm reminded of this line from The Wire (for those who don't know it's a police drama about an investigation into a Baltimore drug syndicate, and probably one of the best drama series ever written)

This +1. All JLR products are carp. Literally, all the folk I know with a JLR product have near constant problems and in many cases eye watering bills. JLR treat their customers as product guinea pigs because most people don't actually own their JLR vehicle. I like this, but I would be amazed if it lasts anything more than two years before it disappears quietly. They are just too late to the party and I personally think its just too expensive for what it is. However, I would like it to succeed as I think its a great product. Looking forward to seeing one in the flesh one day. For those who want a proper C21st Defender you'd be better off waiting 'til next year for this...
As for LR and leaks. Nothing will ever change with LR. I expect the new Defender will be an absolute basket case in 10-15 years time. Possibly worse than what D3s are like now! At least the Defender was never equipped with the now infamous 3.0 TDV6.
