I've noticed that all the older RRS have the removable panel for a towbar, even if they don't have it listed as an option.

This makes me wonder what is there underneath. Is there nothing at all, or do all the RRS come with the setup needed to attached a towbar to?

All cars have the ability to receive a tow ball but not all cars have the electrics, as they were an optional extra.

Thanks. Do you know if it’s a hard retro fit?

A loom kit off of ebay(£90), and a couple of hours graft, you'll be be done. Its all plug and play.

Tow Hitch you can buy second hand/refurbished for around £200

RRS, Discovery 3&4 share the same tow Hitch.

Behind the cover is the rear recovery point.

Towing electrics are easy.
Take bumper off, run wires from below the passenger rear light loom, run a thread tap down the towing electric plug mounting holes as they may need a clean up.

Fasten everything down and refit bumper and light.

You may need to activate ccf file but a local specialist can do that.

I did mine myself a few years ago and I have 10 thumbs. Took me about 2 hours, found some very good instructions online, just followed those. Splice a few wires in the boot, wire up the 7 pin plug and you're done. Mine didn't require any software changes. TDV8 2008
