Against all my better judgement I am going to view a 2012 LR4 V8 HSE this evening.

Need something bigger to house my growing family.

Will get a PPI done at a garage I use and trust but is there anything obvious I can look over when I am walking around kicking the tyres today?

Thanks.

Other than just making sure everything works, raise & lower the suspension a couple of times, to make sure there's still plenty of life left in the compressor and it's not struggling.

Drive over bumps to listen to the suspension.
Any knocks or clunks are worn bushes.

Make sure the gearbox has been serviced.
Test everything electrical.
Check the underside for any damage etc.
If it had a tow bar, check it’s still got the key to remove it if detachable.

Make sure it goes up and down the gears smoothly and that the hand brake works.
Park it on a hill and apply the hand brake. It should hold fine if in good working order and has been serviced.

I'm hoping those would be covered in the PPI but probably worth highlighting to the garage doing the inspection.

From experience.

It’s best to do your own checks and be forewarned and have some knowledge.

As sellers can use garages that are either useless or deliberately not wishing to do the work.

Case in point, my freelander 2.
Bought with a grumble, taken back to be checked out.
Told it “might be a wheel bearing but they can’t tell”
Nothing done.
6 weeks later it was in a specialist for a replacement front left bearing.
